Three great games LEGO Marvel fans will love
The LEGO Marvel Collection brings together all three titles into one neat package. First, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes where Doctor Doom and his hired villains are scheming to build the “Doom Ray of Doom” to rule the world. Second, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 where Kang the Conquer is trying to take over the world while creating riffs between different timelines and realities.
Third, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers that follows the events of The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron films. And, there are four chapters focused on additional Marvel Cinematic Universe properties, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World. Wow!
Moreover, if this is your first time enjoying these games, having the entire trilogy is one place is a definite plus. The LEGO games based on Marvel superheroes are some of the best LEGO games, and make for a great adventure. Throw in a splash of classic LEGO humour, and you’ve got a recipe for success.
LEGO video games are well-known for having pick-up-and-play gameplay, and LEGO Marvel Collection is no exception. If you’ve played any of the previous games in the series, you know the drill here. Each character has their own special abilities that need to be used to solve puzzles and progress to the next area in the game.
For example, Wasp can shrink into mini Wasp form, and Ms. Marvel can stretch and grow. While special abilities are standard in LEGO games, TT Games does a fantastic job of integrating these traits into normal combat rather than just using it for puzzles. Depending on, which of the three games you are playing, combat mechanics vary. My favourite being LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, this game introduces all-new team combo moves where two superheroes work together to take out nearby enemies.
Furthermore, each of the three games offers gameplay that is fun for the whole family to enjoy. Even if you aren’t familiar with these games, you’ll pickup the gameplay in a matter of minutes.
Irresistible LEGO visual appeal
Each of the three games in the LEGO Marvel Collection look and sound just like how I remember them. The LEGO character models glow with a vibrant, plastic sheen and the many locales you visit are just as impressive as I remember. Each game is slightly graphically better than its predecessor, and the sometimes-wacky camera angles are still there in all their glory.
Perhaps one of the best things that I like about LEGO games is their humorous dialog. And, even though I’ve played all these games before, the games in the LEGO Marvel Collection still crack me up.
Local-multiplayer fun including mini games
Each of the games in this collection features local multiplayer. However, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 has a four player, local-only, multiplayer mode with two different modes. The first mode has you capturing Infinity Stones in order to build points. While, the second mode, you and your friends collected different coloured blocks and place them in a bin.
While I had fun with the four-player multiplayer mode, the two modes included are unbalanced. Certain characters have greater advantages over others due the massive roster size. However, playing along with three other friends rather than using the game’s AI is a fun experience.
All downloadable content is included
LEGO Marvel Collection includes all the additional DLC that was released for these games, including bonus character and level packs. This means that you automatically now have dozens of additional characters and additional levels. Several are from the Marvel films released after the release of games such as Ant-Man and The Wasp, Black Panther and The Avengers: Infinity War.
With already an abundance of content, this adds yet even more replayability to the entire package.
LEGO Marvel Collection is the definitive experience for fans
If you’ve yet to play these three games, then the LEGO Marvel Collection is for you. Not only does it include all three games but also all the DLC including bonus character and level packs. With hundreds of characters in each game and a ton of content included, you simply can not go wrong.
Granted, none of the games have gotten a graphical upgrade or any of the camera bugs fixed—they still offer a solid experience that is fun to play by yourself or with family and friends. The classic LEGO humour is included and still every bit as funny. In short, LEGO fans won’t be disappointed.
