The world of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition
In Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition, you venture out to gather drops of myrrh to cleanse the crystal protecting your town, Tipa, from the deadly miasma. During your journey, you’ll encounter ferocious monsters, labyrinthine dungeons, and new companions and some very unique adventurers. But, before your adventure begins you’ll need to create your character!
Character creation
When first starting out, you choose your character from one of four tribes: Clavats, Lilties, Yukes, and Selkies. Each tribe has unique strengths and different character variations to choose from. You can create your character based on a variety of criteria including gender, tribe, variations for each tribe, family jobs, and even voices can be selected for your character.
Adventurers you’ll meet along the way
On your journey, you’ll encounter a variety of characters that will sometimes be beneficial for your caravan and other times not. Let’s take a look at a few of the characters that you’ll meet along the way (pictured at bottom left to right).
First, Leuda Caravan, a couple that travels where the wind takes them. Both Hana and Dah are a couple of Selkies who enjoy the journey, rather than focusing on their mission to collect drops of myrrh. However, once they put their minds to something, they act quickly.
Next, Black Knight, a mysterious knight who wonders the land. This mysterious knight appears suddenly throughout the land. The Black Knight is said to be on a journey to hone his skills as a knight, but now he attacks anyone and everyone. All that’s known is that he fights to regain something that was stolen from him.
Finally, Gurdy, a con artist who has lost his memories. Gurdy travels to various parts of the world to deceive people and make money while in pursuit of the orig. He has no recollection of his past, aside from the fact that he has an older brother, Hurdy, who is a traveling preacher. However, he also says he has never even met Hurdy. He will quietly hum original lyrics from time to time, but no one knows the truth behind them.
Basic battle mechanics
Your characters perform basic attacks by using the weapon they have equipped and can attack successively by pressing the attack button with good timing. However, by pressing and holding the attack button you can target your enemy to aim and attack.
Alternatively, you can charge up a standard attack to perform a Focus Attack. Some make you jump into close-range of your enemy to deal damage, whilst others shoot blasts from a distance. Characters can use different focus attacks depending on their equipped weapon. So, make sure to change your weapon according to the situation in battle.
Magic can be used collecting magicite from fallen enemies. However, when you leave a dungeon, you’ll lose all your magicite, so you’ll need to find them again when revisiting an area.
Gameplay Systems
Various items useful to the caravan can be purchased in town and village facilities. Aside from food and consumable items, you can also purchase a selection of materials and recipes used to craft equipment. Items sold at shops are generally obtainable in dungeons, so it is important to spend your money wisely. Additionally, blacksmiths can create new weapons and armour for you. The equipment that can be created differs by blacksmith from town to town.
When wandering around dungeons, you’ll come across artifacts that you can pickup and use. Some increase base stats, like attack power, defence or magic. And, some increase command slots, or the number of hearts your character has. However, artifacts you pick up will disappear when you leave the dungeon. On the other hand, when you clear a dungeon you can take an artifact as a reward. Unlike the artifacts you pick up in the dungeon, the ones you choose to take back as a reward stay with you permanently.
Records of your encounters with other Caravans, new towns, and dungeon exploration are all recorded in your diary. It’s important to frequently check your diary as it can sometimes give you hints in your ongoing adventure. Additionally, letters and items will arrive from your family as you embark on your adventure. The letters with your family will change depending on your replies. And, it’s up to you whether to read the letters, reply, or even send an item back.
