We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

Prizes are huge part of Play at Best Buy

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

  1. Shining Force 2
    Played on the Sega Genesis
Upgraded graphics with a larger expanded story
It screams to be played on the Switch but SeriesX would work as well

  2. Dr. Mario
    1. I played this on N64
    2. Update the graphics and sound effects
    3. Nintendo Switch

  3. I want a Red Dead Redemption remake because it lacks action compared to new games.! I played it on both PS3 and XBox 360. I would want it released on the new gen consoles, Ps5 and Xbox Series S

  4. Chrono trigger should be redone but with some updated gameplay. Played it on the super nintendo, and it just had the best worlds and story but would be great with a more modern battle style. And I’d love it on the switch so I can play on the go.

  5. I wish Resident Evil 6 to be redone soon. I played it on Xbox One X, now I wish I can play it on Nintendo, and change with more multiplayers online.

  6. Dance Central should be redone soon.
    1. I play on playstation console 5
    2. Add more diversity to the game
    3. I would like to add on a VR

  7. The game i played in the past that I think should be redone soon is Sly Cooper.
    1. I played it on the Playstation 2
    2. The changes I suggest would make the new version exciting would be to add VR
    3. The console I would like to try this new version of the game is the Playstation 5

  8. I think mario kart should be redone. I first played it on nintendo 64 I would update the graphics and i would like to play it on the nintendo switch.

  9. Descent. I played it on an old PC. It needs a modern game engine remake for better graphics. I’d like to play it on Xbox series x.

  10. Only game I played is Mario Kart on the Nintendo Wii which I still own. I like to have better graphics and love to have an Xbox so I could play games with my family online.

  11. 2 games
1st Tokyo Xtreme Racer on ps2, on the new consoles, I would play it on the Ps5
2nd Mr. Mosquito. Originally on the original Playstation but have it re made for VR either PSvr2 or Quest vr

  12. 1. God of War: Chains of Olympus was a classic game that I have played in my psp before back then. Going back, I did not get the chance to understand the plot as it was pretty much confusing. The most annoying part was the “freezing” or laggy of the game, making it harder to continue if I want to, for example, attack.
    2. In the future, I would suggest that they consider the performance of the game; make sure to have less laggy in order to have a comfortable gaming. As a guy who plays games for stories, I would want to make the story unique and correlated to each other.
    3. I would like to try the new version in PS5.

  13. One game I played in the past that I believe should be remade soon is “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” for the Nintendo 64.

    1) Console: Nintendo 64

    2) Changes: I would suggest enhancing the graphics to modern standards while keeping the original art style intact. Additionally, implementing more dynamic and immersive environments, expanded side quests, and refined controls would make a new version of the game exciting. Introducing new story elements or dungeons could also add fresh content for players who have already experienced the original game.

    3) New Console: I would love to try this new version of the game on the Nintendo Switch. The portability and versatility of the Switch would allow me to play this classic adventure both at home and on the go, offering a seamless gaming experience.

Bringing “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” back with modern enhancements on the Nintendo Switch would not only captivate long-time fans but also introduce a new generation of players to this timeless masterpiece.

  14. I would love a remake of the Bloodborne souls game its just too good to not be remade again! I played it years ago on the ps4 and would love a remake on ps4 if possible or just the ps5 since that is the new gen after all. The ps5 would make lovely visuals and graphics for the bosses (which maybe they will lessen up on, like how in the world do I kill amygdala guys).

  15. Shining Force 2
    Played on the Sega Genesis
Upgraded graphics with a larger expanded story
It screams to be played on the Switch but SeriesX would work as well

  16. I spend many hours playing Mario Kart on Wii with my grandson. He’s now a Xbox player and I would like to see Mario Kart upgraded for Xbox with better visuals more action.

  17. I think Star Wars: the force unleashed needs a remake. It was released on the ps2, I believe it should have graphics and polishing updates to make the game better.

  18. Used to play Tony hawk underground on PS2. Would love to see it re-done similar to THPS with a new open world om the PS5.

    2- Add More fighting combos
3- would like to play it on VR

  20. Donkey Kong 64
    1. I played this on the Nintendo 64.
    2. Updated graphics would be fantastic!
    3. Nintendo Switch would fit the bill.
    Thanks for the opportunity!

  21. The game I would like to see remade would be the original “Jak & Daxter” series from the Playstation 2. Playing this game as a child blew me away with its expressive animation, beautiful art style, and unique gameplay. All I would want from this game is a faithful translation into HD with quality of life changes made to fit in with the current game landscape. While it makes most sense to release this on the new PlayStation, I would be joyful if it came to the PC as that is where I play a majority of my games.

If chosen, I would love to get the Xbox bundle as my nephew LOVES Zamboni’s with an unreasonable passion.

  22. Dr. Mario
    1. I played this on SNES
    2. Updated graphics and modes and online vs
    3. Nintendo Switch

  23. Used to play Contra on the first NES console. So much fun. An updated version on the PS5 using the latest graphics and expanding the weapons and bad guys while keeping the same fun gameplay would rock!

  24. Bubble Bobble!! I played it on NES, i would love updated graphics and an open world aspect to it but also level based. I would like it on Nintendo Switch

  25. Boogerman: A Pick and Flick Adventure on the Sega Genesis. A new version should have upgraded graphics, 2.5D plane, multiplayer with unique characters, more squelching. I would love to try a new version on my switch or either of the next gen consoles.

  26. 1. God of War on PS2 (2005)
    2. Use one shot, incorporate some RPG and progression elements and increase the length
    3. Play it on the PS5

  27. Would love to see SSX get a remake!

    1. Played it on the PS2 as a kid
    2. Keep the game as it always was but update the visuals
    3. If it’s gonna be remade it has to be on the PS5

    Good luck to everyone entering!

  28. I have weanted a Red Dead Redemption Remake for quite ahwile now! I played it on both PS3 and XBox 360. I ideally would want it released on the new gen consoles, Ps5 and Xbox Series S

  29. I would like to see remastered would be shadow hearts, I first played this game on ps2. I would like to see an improved battle system and more expansive environments you can explore. I would play this game on switch or ps5.

  30. I would love to see the original Arkham Asylum updated from PS3/PS4 for the PS5/PC to take control of improved lighting/HDR and modern game mechanics, it would be a huge improvement moving from the Unreal 3 engine to the Unreal 5 engine. I’d either play on PS5 or PC

  31. I used to play a lot of Warcraft2 bne on the pc I would enjoy a remake or a new RTS in the Warcraft universe and to make it better maybe include some of the lore and characters from the wow expansions. I would also like to play this on the pc.

  32. Mario Bros on the original Nintendo give him everything (powers, tools etc) from all the other versions all in one game

  33. Rocket Knight Adventures. I played it on the Sega Megadrive. the only changes would be graphics and 3D depths. I would like to try it on the Nintendo switch or Xbox

  34. I think the game was called Boxle on Gameboy. A mover moved boxes around a warehouse. Sounds boring maybe but I got addicted and it helped when I later made newsletters etc in a graphic design program.
I would like to play it on Nintendo Switch

  35. I would love to see nfs most wanted the og one remastered! It would be great for the nfs franchise as it will help them comeback. They should update the graphics and visuals making the game look more amazing and should keep all the other mechanics exactly the same. I played it originally on pc but would love to see it on ps5.

  36. I played Red Dead Redemption on XBox series X. I would love to play a redesigned version as a female character, on the PS5.

  37. I’d love to see a remake of Zelda – Ocarina of Time.
    1. I first played this on N64 as a kid.
    2. The Japanese version of the game was made with a “Master Quest” difficulty setting that would be really fun to play. Also I’d love updated graphics and physics added.
    3. Obviously this would come out on Nintendo Switch but I’d love to play it on my PS5 or PC.

  38. Simpson Hit and Run! I played it on PS2. Modern graphics and online play would be great improvements but I wouldn’t change a lot of the core of the game. A PS5 version would be fun.

  39. I remember wasting way too much time in a Quake Arena team, playing on PC. An update to the graphics and mapping capabilities could make it comparable to some current offerings. I still prefer PC for most games, but with a custom controller that is similar to the Xbox one.
