We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

  1. I would love to see an updated version of Pokemon Yellow for the Nintendo Switch. I have so many memories of playing the original Pokemon games on Gameboy, and it would be amazing to get a chance to replay those versions with the modern graphics and perspective of the latest Pokemon series.

  2. Roller Coaster Tycoon should be re-done. I originally played on PC.
Trying it on PlayStation or with VR would be cool.

  3. 1. Pac Man on an arcade machine 2. There should be more dialogue with the characters. 3.Nintendo switch lite

  4. 1. Wario Woods
    2. Played on SNES.
    3. Better updated graphics and a better save file.
    4. I would want the new one to be on Switch.

  5. Zork! Obviously needs better graphics. We played it on PC, but it should be completely revamped, made open world and distributed on the Playstation

  6. I know this was/is possibly in production, but Star Wars KOTOR and KOTOR2. I loved playing KOTOR 2 on Xbox. IT was a great game, but the graphics could really use an update. It is such a great game, I would love to see it come out on on the consoles even PC. Let everyone enjoy this amazing experience.

  7. I think the classic Roller Coaster Tycoon should be re-done. I originally played on PC. I think using advances in graphics would make the new version exciting, and trying it on PlayStation or with VR would be cool.

  8. I would love if FEAR was remade from the ground up. I would keep everything absolutely the same only utilizing todays fantastic graphics and let it run at a comfortable 60 frames per second I would play it on Xbox series X for sure!

  9. I grew up playing Metal Gear Solid for PlayStation 1, 2, & 3. The Console I would love to try this on would be PlayStation 5 in which I do not have.

But some of the enhancements that could be used for a newer update version would be:

    1) Expanded Open World: Consider expanding the game world and providing more opportunities for exploration
    2) Improved AI and Enemy Behavior: Enhance the enemy AI to make them more challenging and intelligent. Implement realistic reactions to the player’s actions, such as improved detection and search patterns, and incorporate dynamic behaviors that respond to the environment, making each encounter feel unique.
    3) New Storyline and Characters: Develop a fresh storyline and introduce new characters to revitalize the Metal Gear Solid universe. Retain the series’ signature blend of intrigue and political themes while introducing compelling narratives that resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers.
    4) Graphics and Visual Enhancements

  10. Several years ago I enjoyed playing
-Final fantasy 3 on a PC.
    – Would love the see this game with better graphics
    – It would be great to try the new version of the game with Xbox.

  11. Fatal Frame on PS3; new game mechanics/view points; PS5 engine would make it very intense and exciting!

  12. I used to love to play Final Fantasy 6 on SNES. Would be great to see it redone on the Nintendo Switch with HD-2D graphics, that would truly take the experience to the next level!

  13. Unreal Tournament was a classic I played on PC. I’d love for it to be redone and brought tp XBOX for better and faster visuals.

  14. I really think Dishonored should be redone soon! I played it on my PC and the changes I would suggest would be to make it longer, have a new awesome setting/location for the game and with more characters! I would love to see the new version of the game on a PS5

  15. I loved Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, played it on the Xbox.

I’d love to see it brought back so I can play on the Series X with a more dynamic world and enemies, and factions that you could pit against each other by doing sabotage missions disguised as the other faction.

  16. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1, I Used to play it on the PS1. I would love to play it on the ps5! I think the updated graphics and speed would make this game just amazing!

  17. I used to love to play the Shaun White Snowboarding on the Wii Balance Board. I’d love to see gaming consoles develop games that were fun to play but helped to develop your balance and strength while playing them. They would need to make it adjustable, so everyone could play, but think it could be a great combo, having fun while you work on balance or strength. Would love to see this on Playstation with a more sophisticated balance board for gameplay.

  18. I really think Dishonored should be redone soon! I played it on my PC and the changes I would suggest would be to make it longer, have a new awesome setting/location for the game and with more characters! I would love to see the new version of the game on a PS5! 🙂

  19. This one is way out there… One of my favourite video games of all time, that I would love to see a modern version of, is Sid Meier’s Pirates!. Now, it WAS redone some years back – but the remake just was not up to par. I originally played it on the Commodore64 (does that count as a console?), so we’re talking a good long time ago for the original. Changes? I would change nothing from the original except graphics, speed, and making some of the various mechanics a bit more immersive – the sword fights a little more intricate, the sailing a little more manual, the land battles more strategic. Take out the “minigame” style of the remake. It would be a perfect fit on the Switch – deep but casual at the same time, with decade long pirate campaigns.

  20. I grew up loving the original Final Fantasy for the NES and would love to see it redone on a new Nintendo OLED Switch system. The game could be sped up and enhanced with cutscenes, and of course the graphics could benefit from an overhaul

  21. Unreal Tournament was a classic I played on PC. I’d love for it to be redone and brought tp XBOX for better and faster visuals.

  22. I played Final Fantasty 6 on SNES. It would be so cool to see it redone on PS5, as that would provide such a cool experience.

  23. I’d love a remake of the original Donkey Kong Country on the Super Nintendo!

New graphics, textures, and some updated Kremlings and level designs would be fantastic. Adding some cutscenes to convey story and redoing some of the soundtrack would be excellent

    Nintendo Switch!

  24. I used to play “PC Futbol” on PC back when I was a young boy in Argentina. It should be redone and updated with state-of-the-art gameplay and better graphics capability on the PS5. Araujo’s commentary should be redone via the wonderful progess in voice-AI-regeneration that has been made in the last 6-12 months

  25. I loved Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, played it on the Xbox.

I’d love to see it brought back so I can play on the Series X with a more dynamic world and enemies, and factions that you could pit against each other by doing sabotage missions disguised as the other faction.

  29. 1080° Snowboarding
    1:N64
2;needs a reboot with better graphics and some new gamplay and controls
