We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

  2. I played Donkey Kong 64 on Nintendo 64 in 1999 and I know it has been updated but I wish it was updated to include some extra twists and challenges and heightened graphics. I want to play it on the Nintendo Switch.

  3. Crash bandicoot on playstation would like to see more characters to make it exciting and would like it on PS5 now.

  4. W e played Super Mario 64 on a Nintendo system. The graphics would be clearer and more precise. I think it would be so good on a Nintendo Switch.

  7. The “Simpsons hit and run” I played on Xbox and it should be redone with the latest graphics. I would like to play it on a PS5.

  8. A game that I would absolutely love to see redone in today’s day and age would be Earthbound. Recently played it on Nintendo Switch Online. The game could benefit from an updated menu and item system, and I would love to see the graphics updated into something like the recent Link’s Awakening art style! I could see this new version on the Nintendo Switch for sure!

  9. Really loved Super Mario 64 in the 90’s on a Nintendo system. The graphics today would be very different, faster and more clear. I think it would be so good on a Nintendo Switch.

  10. 1. Ace attorney was an amazing series on the gameboy
    2. Hard to think of something to change as it was so great, but maybe some AR capabilities to add to the experience? Or some more voice acting
    3. Definitely would suit the switch

  11. I loved the original Silent Hill which I played on PlayStation 2. Would love to see them remake it with better graphics and in VR which would add a new element of terror. I’d play this on the Oculus.

  12. Ms Pacman on Atari (I think!!). I would remaster the graphics and speed. Would love to play this on a new xbox

  13. I played Dino Crisis on the original PlayStation. I’d love to see if upgraded with HD graphics and updated controls. And I’d want to play it on the Xbox Series X or PS5.

  14. Um. Pac Man on Atari. Need to be 35 years younger. Would I recover my youth by playing an upgraded game on my PC?

  15. I played spyro on the gamecube. I would love to see them remake it on the switch with HD graphics. Or on the ps5 where you can play virtually.

  16. I played Spyro on the Playstation, and an upgrade with brand new graphics would be really exciting. I would suggest new storylines and better visuals, and I’d love to try it on the Switch

  17. Tomb raider with new graphics and better weapons on a with online play on a PS5 would be fantastic

  18. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a game I think should be redone soon. I used to play it on the original Playstation. The changes I think should be made would be mostly graphics, physics, and some gameplay and fighting mechanics – the game has such a cool storyline, but modern graphics and game engines could bring a lot to it, and create new fans. I would like to try the new version on X-Box. I’ve gotten a lot more used to X-Box over the many years since the original Playstation.

  19. Blades Of Steel on NES. Remake with current graphics for Nintendo Switch because EA Sports games are crap right now.

  20. Fuzion Frenzy was an amazing mini-game collection which I played countless hours of on the original XBox. Would love to see a remake for it on the XBox Series S, with upgraded graphics and online play (which the original version lacked).

  21. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.

A game I played a long, long time ago was Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. I would love to see this game be redone/remade. I remember playing it on my original XBOX back in the early 2000s.
A new version of the game that would make it exciting, would be introducing online play, player custom maps, more character customization (it was still ahead of it’s time even back then though!). I would love to see this new version on the Xbox Series X console.

    Thanks.

  22. Game: Fallout – New Vegas or Fallout 3.

    1. what console you played it on: PC
    2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; Updated graphics, updated Player UI, it could have a similar system to Fallout 4.
    3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game: PC

  23. Jet Set Radio deserves a remake. I played this on the Seg Dreamcast and what an innovative , cel-shaded title it was at the time.
If it were to be done, I’d be hoping for 60 to 120 fps as well as ray tracing on the modern consoles.
Ideally I’d want to play this on the Series X / S with achievements.

  24. I think Metal Gear Solid should be redone soon. I played it on the PS1 and would like to play it on the PS5. Upgraded graphics is all it needs!

  25. Since FF7 is underway, I’d go with Chronotrigger that I had on the Super Nintendo. Great game with such originality back in the day. Would love to see it on the PS5 (like they did with the sequel, Chronocross, on the PS). Aside from the graphics update, it would benefit by going with more realism and less cartoony look. Line me up.

  26. Skyrim. I played in on Xbox 360 and I’d like to see it redone with mods and all the upgrades the PC version received. I’d try it again on Xbox S/X or PS5.

  27. I spent many hours playing the Original Tomb Raider on the original Playstation. Updating this game with new weapons and the graphics that these new consoles can output would be out of this world. Would love to see how this would play on a PS5

  28. Metal Gear from the NES would be great for a update to a VR game. They are about to release a Metal gear collection so that would allow more people to play the original and get hyped for a New VR game. I would like the VR game to be on Quest and PS5 VR

  29. WWF No Mercy on the N64 would be an awesome remake. Enhanced graphics, fast gameplay and loading pages, full entrances, updated roster and a community creation suite option, customized theme Music option, tons of added moves and match types. Online gameplay, 10 player multi-player. Keep the same gameplay and controls that made that game so legendary though. I would love to play it on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch. Any one of those consoles would be amazing to play it on.
