Marvel's Avengers

On the last day of E3, I went behind closed doors to see Marvel’s Avengers. This game is probably one of the most games I’ve heard people talking about on the show floor. I talked to at least a dozen or so people around the booth and all were just as excited as me.

After checking in with the media desk, I was promptly ushered back to the waiting area. Everyone in attendance was reminded that recording video or audio and taking pictures was strictly prohibited. After a short wait, the doors opened to a studio where everyone was seated on benches.

Headphones were placed for everyone and we were instructed to put them on before the presentation began. We were given a brief background about the story of the game, which if you are unfamiliar with I’ll quickly fill you in. The story begins at A-Day and the Avengers have just unveiled a hi-tech headquarters powered by an experimental energy. An attempt to steal this new technology is made. Essentially, the gameplay I saw occurs between the segments in the trailer shown at Square Enix’s E3 2019 showcase.

We saw gameplay from all of the Avengers: Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Captain America. My two favourite segments were Thor and Black Widow. Thor makes his way though enemies by smashing and throwing his hammer at them. And, there is even some hand to hand combat. The action looked fast and fluid as enemies were sent flying.

My next favourite gameplay segment shown was Black Widow. She battled it out against Taskmasker. As he flew around, Black Widow grabbed on and rode on his back punching and kicking him until he finally crashed into the ground. Over all, I was very impressed with the gameplay and now I am even more excited to get my hands on this game.

  1. This trailer looked fun! I’m excited to see this game come out. I’m a little disappointed that it isn’t coming to Switch, but graphically the system probably isn’t capable of it.

Although it makes me wonder if the reason Nintendo went after Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3 is because they wanted to draw that Marvel fanbase to their system.
