On October 12, it’s Treyarch’s turn to release their Call of Duty game. This year, multiplayer is the core of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. At E3, I had my hands on two rounds of 4 vs 4 team death match.

Players are good at team death match

I must confess, I’m not so good at multiplayer action games. My experience with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 team death match resulted in exploring both maps and dying as soon as I encountered other players. My opponents were familiar with the series, and it is amazing looking them play. They are so fast on anticipating opponent’s actions and be the first to shoot. I’m so used to play solo games and co-op adventures against AI enemies that PvP overwhelms me.

Funny thing, it gave me time to have a look at the map screen. Moving in real time, red and blue dots represent players location and the direction they look at. I can see how this help knowing where the enemy is, and how they move for strategy.

The mini-map at the top corner of the screen also shows everyone’s precise position. Graphics are good, although colleagues didn’t find it perfect. It reminds me of Call of Duty: WWII from last year. Details in locations and environment are superb. The first map shows exterior environments by the sea. Harmonious green forest, sand beaches and mountain rocks give enough ground to cover in a great maze effect. We can even swim under water, which I find interesting.

The second map send us on a ship. I heard myself running on steal floor, careful not to attract too much attention. The user interface show stats info in real time, as well as shortcut commands. I loved using the L1, R1 and L1+R1 for quick access to heal, throw grenades and use a special weapon. Keep track on the lower screen for down time. Those take time to reload so use wisely. I also noticed heavier weapons slow you down. You can’t run as fast. It kills me not having time to train more but I managed to kill one or two guys, so my Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 experience was not so bad.
