Today at E3 2015 I had the esteemed privilege to meet with the folks at Disney Interactive to check out Disney Infinity 3.0–the Play Set games and the characters figures. I have to say, the more I learned about this year’s version, and the longer I played, the more excited I got! Here’s why Disney Infinity 3.0 is shaping up to be the best entry in the series yet!

Release Date: Fall 2015

The reason why I’m stoked for Disney Infinity 3.0 is because in addition to the Disney, Pixar, and Marvel universes, this latest edition features Star Wars! I had a chance to see first-hand all the new Star Wars interactive figures, like Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Yoda, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Chewbacca, plus more, and the figures all look outstanding. There’s so much detail packed into each character, and they’re performing their iconic poses (like Vader doing his Force Choke, and Han Solo holding his blaster to the air). If you were impressed with the amount of minute details on past Disney Infinity figures, just wait until you see the new Star Wars one–they might just be the best yet!

Another big reason why I’m super excited for Disney Infinity 3.0 is because this year, Disney Interactive has partnered with many world-class developers to create the Star Wars Play Sets. The first one I tried, called Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic Play Set, was developed by Ninja Theory from DmC: Devil May Cry fame. This Play Set is set during the latter years of the Clone Wars, and lets you explore the open worlds of iconic Star Wars locations like Tatooine and Corusant!

Next, I headed on over to the second Star Wars Play Set called Rise Against the Empire. This one is set during the time of the original trilogy, and lets you play as familiar characters such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader. This Play Set features many types of starships like X-wing fighters and the Millennium Falcon. There are also land-based missions that take place at pivotal locations from the movies, like Tatooine, Hoth, and Endor.

While the Star Wars Play Sets are reason enough to check out Disney Infinity 3.0, there’s plenty more you’ll want to check out. For starters, I paid a visit to the Inside Out Play Set, based on this summer’s new Pixar movie, and had a blast checking out the new interactive figures based on characters from the movie (see to the left). The game itself is extremely fun too–together with a Disney staff co-op partner we were bouncing on clouds and solving puzzles as we helped Riley’s Emotions journey through her Imagination Land. The game world was cute, colourful and light-hearted–exactly what we’ve come to love about Disney Infinity!

I haven’t had a chance yet to dive into the enhanced 3-D Toy Box in Disney Infinity 3.0, but I was told by a Disney rep that you can create different types of gameplay experiences, from platform, to racing, to puzzle, and even farming simulation games. Two games that come with Disney Infinity 3.0 are Toy Box Speedway (kart racing) and Toy Box Takeover (action-adventure). I can’t wait to try them out soon!

What I did see are all the new interactive figures that will launch with Disney Infinity 3.0, which includes numerous fan-favourite characters from across the many Walt Disney universes, like Mickey and Minnie, Sam Flynn and Quorra from Tron: Legacy, Mulan and Olaf, and many others.

Disney_Infinity_Boba_Fett.jpgAlso, as we found out at Sony’s E3 press conference, the legendary Star Wars bounty hunter Boba Fett is coming to Disney Infinity 3.0! Boba Fett will be available exclusively for PlayStation platforms (PS4 and PS3) through a Limited Edition Star Wars Saga Starter Pack. I thought Boba Fett was the coolest looking interactive figure of all that I saw today, so PlayStation fans are in for a real treat!

Well, that concludes my day with Disney Infinity 3.0. There’s a whole lot to look forward to this fall when the game releases, so get set for some more epic Disney Infinity adventures!
