Pioneer VSX935 receiver contestMany people find home audio a shopping challenge and may avoid even learning about great receivers like the amazing, versatile options from Pioneer. Yes, the easiest home theatre audio solution is to get nothing and let the TV do the audio heavy lifting. However, televisions will never produce the kind of immersive audio you get from a great stereo system. And that stereo system begins with a premium receiver like the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver we are giving away in this contest.

How to get the best home theatre audio

Sometimes I watch TV and get the audio from the television speakers. This is fine for me when I’m watching the news or a weather report. If I’m watching something meaningful, I’ll use a sound bar connected via an HDMI cable. I use that same sound bar to stream Spotify sometimes if I want background music in the living room.

However, when I’m watching something meaningful to me I send the audio to my receiver so I get an audio experience comparable to the great visuals and great storytelling I’m enjoying. It’s all part of the same package for me. Sometimes, I’ll rewatch something that I streamed on my phone because I know it will be so much better on the big screen with the big sound I can only get from my stereo. For example, the opening music of Star Trek: Discovery has amazing depth and gives me chills—when I listen on my stereo! Even Tig Notaro’s acerbic tone as my favourite character in this series, Jett Reno, is more biting through a proper home theatre system.

How do I know what to look for in a home theatre receiver

Like many of the Canadians reading this article, I am not a home theatre receiver expert. I’m not. That’s why I hire people who know more than I do for many of the projects I assign for the Best Buy blog. The prize we are giving away is a great example: I sent it to Jason Gorber, who knows a lot more about audio than I do. So if you want to learn more about this prize, you should read his informative review.

Similarly, the many comprehensive buying guides you find on the blog were not written by me. In fact, they are not the work of just one person. I assign the project to a knowledgable writer on the team, then the draft goes to other experts for that product category to be revised and molded to, hopefully, be maximally useful as a tool that helps shoppers find the right products for their home. Check out the Receiver Buying Guide on the blog and you will have a better idea of what a receiver can do for your home audio needs.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three (3) different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us what you usually use for home theatre audio and how this receiver might improve your home listening experience.
  2. In a comment below the Receiver Buying Guide, tell us one aspect about receivers that you learned from that article.
  3. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) sharing with your friends and followers one reason why you want to win this Pioneer receiver; include the hashtag #BestBuyPioneerContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.

What can you win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner from all eligible entries to receive the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver sample that was tested for the blog review article.

This contest runs from July 7th to July 21st.

Remember, you can enter in three different ways as discussed above. You should also discuss the information in this contest with your family and friends so they too can enter this contest for a chance to win a premium Pioneer receiver.

  2. I currently have a system which is 22 years old and I just bough t a new 4K 50 in TV which I need to set up. A new receiver and technology will be wonderful improvement

  3. Currently running an older onkyo that’s limited to 1080p,this would allow us to move forward with 4k in the future and improved processing.

  4. Having a receiver liek this would totally change my setup. Since it has a phono input I would move my turntable and CD changer out to the gaming and TV room, and start using that room for music as well as games and TV and I would probably end up upgrading speaker setup.

  8. I’m just using TV speakers now,

I had an old 5.1 receiver that I used for years, however as technology changed it got harder and harder to get it connected to the new equipment and route the audio to it, This would be a massive boost!

  9. 1- I use my TV for audio so this receiver would be a big boost in improving the sound system’s quality.

  10. We sort of have a receiver but its and old hand me down, it hardly works with new technology and most of our cords are hooked up through work arounds, needing to bypass the receiver anyways, so winning this would really get the sound system working properly!

  11. just using my basic TV speakers. I’m sure a receiver and speakers will want me to watch more tv.

  17. I usually use a second hand receiver for home theatre audio. This receiver would be more consistent and provide a better sound to improve home listening experience.

  18. Well considering the audio equipment is older than my eldest child (21 yo), I’m pretty sure this will improve the entire experience easily.

  19. I use my television set, but this would free up my set for other uses and have a much better quality of sound.

  20. I currently use an old Technics receiver with Koss bookshelf speakers.

  24. I’m currently using a vizio soundbar that I purchase 6 years ago. The Pioneer VSX-935 AV receiver will give me a theater experience. It will give me a better quality sound, different options that I can customize to my liking. It offers more than what I currently have. I love the bluetooth and wifi options.

  25. Many receivers are now capable of upscaling video from SD into HD or all the way to 4K. So you can plug in all of your sources, from a DVD player to Blu-ray, PVR and the receiver will take that video signal, regardless of source and output either 1080p or 4K. If you have a new HD or 4K display this will be a great feature, and if you are planning to upgrade to HD or 4K over the lifecycle of your receiver you may want to look at upscaling and capitalize on this.

  27. I currently have a 5.2 channel receiver, subwoofer and 4 speakers which does have great sound. The system is 22 years old and I just bough t a new 4K 50 in TV which I need to set up. So a 7.2 channel receiver would give that little extra oomph for a better home listening experience.
