Pioneer VSX935 receiver contestMany people find home audio a shopping challenge and may avoid even learning about great receivers like the amazing, versatile options from Pioneer. Yes, the easiest home theatre audio solution is to get nothing and let the TV do the audio heavy lifting. However, televisions will never produce the kind of immersive audio you get from a great stereo system. And that stereo system begins with a premium receiver like the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver we are giving away in this contest.

How to get the best home theatre audio

Sometimes I watch TV and get the audio from the television speakers. This is fine for me when I’m watching the news or a weather report. If I’m watching something meaningful, I’ll use a sound bar connected via an HDMI cable. I use that same sound bar to stream Spotify sometimes if I want background music in the living room.

However, when I’m watching something meaningful to me I send the audio to my receiver so I get an audio experience comparable to the great visuals and great storytelling I’m enjoying. It’s all part of the same package for me. Sometimes, I’ll rewatch something that I streamed on my phone because I know it will be so much better on the big screen with the big sound I can only get from my stereo. For example, the opening music of Star Trek: Discovery has amazing depth and gives me chills—when I listen on my stereo! Even Tig Notaro’s acerbic tone as my favourite character in this series, Jett Reno, is more biting through a proper home theatre system.

How do I know what to look for in a home theatre receiver

Like many of the Canadians reading this article, I am not a home theatre receiver expert. I’m not. That’s why I hire people who know more than I do for many of the projects I assign for the Best Buy blog. The prize we are giving away is a great example: I sent it to Jason Gorber, who knows a lot more about audio than I do. So if you want to learn more about this prize, you should read his informative review.

Similarly, the many comprehensive buying guides you find on the blog were not written by me. In fact, they are not the work of just one person. I assign the project to a knowledgable writer on the team, then the draft goes to other experts for that product category to be revised and molded to, hopefully, be maximally useful as a tool that helps shoppers find the right products for their home. Check out the Receiver Buying Guide on the blog and you will have a better idea of what a receiver can do for your home audio needs.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three (3) different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us what you usually use for home theatre audio and how this receiver might improve your home listening experience.
  2. In a comment below the Receiver Buying Guide, tell us one aspect about receivers that you learned from that article.
  3. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) sharing with your friends and followers one reason why you want to win this Pioneer receiver; include the hashtag #BestBuyPioneerContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.

What can you win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner from all eligible entries to receive the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver sample that was tested for the blog review article.

This contest runs from July 7th to July 21st.

Remember, you can enter in three different ways as discussed above. You should also discuss the information in this contest with your family and friends so they too can enter this contest for a chance to win a premium Pioneer receiver.

  1. i sadly only use the built in speakers on tv; a receiver will allow me to setup a dream entertainment setup.

  2. Pioneer has always had the very best audio equipment hands down. This would definitely make our livingroom a true paradise!! Currently we have a crappy sound bar that I hate as I find it echoes so I usually just watch without using and just use my TV.

  3. I don’t have home theatre audio. I just use my TV speakers, so this receiver, and external speakers, would be a big improvement. From the article, I learned how to match speakers to an amplifier.

  4. I have a small soundbar, but it is quite finicky, so I’d appreciate something a bit more robust.

  5. I usually use a regular bluetooth speaker for my home tv viewing experience – it’s better than the speakers on the television, but obviously not the best option available.

Having this receiver will add in one more tool I can build around to improve my home theatre experience.

  6. I currently use sound bar to enjoy the TV and the Pioneer 7.2 channel 8K Home Theatre receiver will enhance audio experience with its MCACC system automatically tuning the sound to deliver crystal clear output by cancelling out the negative effects from other elements inside the room.

  7. If you are looking for an easy, one-stop approach to home theatre, an AV receiver is your solution.

  8. just using my basic TV speakers. I’m sure a receiver and speakers will want me to watch more tv.

  9. I have a nice record collection and have always wanted a reciever to boost the sound quality of the records. I currently use a record player on an old stereo system that doesn’t include a reciever.

  10. I only have TV speakers but a home theatre system is always something I’ve wanted to invest into!

  11. I currently only use a bluetooth speaker for home audio, so this would be wonderful. I really want some room speakers.

  12. Currently I have another brand name receiver, it’s 12-years-old and my TV is 2-years m-old with 4K ability. As such, a new update receiver would be fantastic for our movie nights.

  14. Just use the tv speakers, anything would be an upgrade – working my way to new and improved over time.

  16. I love Pioneer products as they are built to last. I am still using the first Pioneer receiver that I bought back in 2001 but I need a new one that has 4K and all then new digital surround sound capabilities.

  17. We only have our TV speakers for movie nights so the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver would really improve our movie nights.

  18. Years ago I used an old multi dvd disk player with the high watt multi speakers all wired in. It was ok, and certainly improved movies. Lately though everything is just through the TV. Kinda bland. This Pioneer receiver would pull me into the current century and change our living room to a true theatre and let me use some of the speakers I have been picking up to do this very thing with a good receiver that I just don’t have yet.

  20. We moved into this home 20 years ago.. speaker system was installed in each room and we have the speakers … But we still don’t have the receiver so this would be the PERFECT finish to our 20 year audio home journey. They say patience is a virtue. I say I’ve been more than patient

  21. I had no idea watts do not equal volume ….but the capacity for volume and that efficiency is actually a thing!

  22. My current home system is so archaic and cumbersome this receiver would ramp me up to the current techie us

  23. I have some speakers i could set them up to and have a better listening experience in my room 🙂

  24. The recover will let me hook up my speakers I have an old pioneer in my basement time for a upgrade Thsnks

  26. We have a very old receiver 20+ years. It was my husbands so not sure how old exactly. It is a Technics. It isn’t too bad but I am sure that a new Pioneer receiver would probably blow this one out of the water,Pioneer is a very good name. A good friend had Pioneer speakers in college in the 70’s and they were very good quality.Winning these would make every nights listening a real pleasure,I am sure.
