Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  7. I think the coolest tech toy for the upcoming holiday season has to be a drone! This toy can be for any kids boys or girls and also for adults!

    The coolest toy I ever received was an Optimus Prime! I still have it 🙂

  19. The coolest tech toy I had as a kid was a “computer” with math games on it. It may have been made by vtech. It was very basic because it was the mid-80s, but I thought it was just the coolest thing ever!

  23. The coolest tech toy out now is the Codeapillar. I’m pretending to get it for my nephew, but really it’s so I can play with it.

  25. My favorite as a kid was my Super Nintendo! I still have it and still love it! Can’t wait until my kids show an interest so we can play together 🙂

The coolest techy toy I had as a kid was this thing where you connected different wires to different places all around the board and depending on how you had the wires connected, when you pushed a button it would make different sounds. There was a booklet that came with it that showed you how to produce certain sounds but we liked to find our own. 🙂 I wish we still had that thing.

  36. That caterpillar toy is the coolest one I think I’ve seen this year. It’s a definite contender for a Christmas present for my little girl. I’m such a sucker for caterpillars!!

  37. Coolest tech toy this year is the sphero bb8! Love the endless educational opportunities of the sphero! Best tech toy when I was a kid (and my kids still love it) was Lego! (Especially the classic blocks!)

  38. Growing up in the 80s tech toys were pretty basic!! I did get an awesome keyboard for Christmas one year. Thought i was a pro player!!

  39. My son wants a drone so bad!! Well he calls it a drome, lol! I am amazed at all the robotic toys coming out this year!!

  40. Sphero BB-8 App-enabled Droid is my choice as think would be so much fun using with my son. The best tech toy was the first laptop PACMAN game for 2 players. Wasn’t portable yet but we would plug it in and play for hours.

  46. I think the Star Wars Deluxe Electronic R2-D2 is the coolest tech toy! Bonus that my daughter and my husband would both love it!

  50. Easily the best tech toy is a Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K Quadcopter Drone with Camera & Controller – Ready-to-Fly. Fly and film, that’s the dream and until I figure out how birds do the flying thing these things are awesome.

    The coolest tech toy I ever received was an RC helicopter, but that had no camera so it was nowhere near as cool as this drone.
