Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  5. Coolest tech toy from Best Buy 2016 is the Robotic Toys Sphero – I am just amazed with technology these days. My girls would love it!

  6. My coolest tech as a kid was when I got a remote control car and it wasn’t connected with a wire!! – of course you had to run after it because the range was next to nothing – yes I’m old lol

  7. The DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter looks absolutely spectacular- so many cheap drones that never fly right makes it hard, it this thing is AWESOME!!!

  14. My favourite tech toy from my “childhood” was my Nintendo NES. I provided my my first chance to play Zelda games and started a life long enjoyment of gaming.

  15. While I think the Sphero is a very cool toy, the toy I think is the coolest is the drone. I am a teacher at a high school. It would be great to have the drone to film students on canoe trips and sporting events.

  16. I think some of the coolest tech toys now are still classics. My son loves playmobile farm house and Noah’s ark. He uses all his little animals to play lion guard… nothing like classic toys to stimulate a 2 year olds imagination.

  17. The coolest tech toy I got as a kid was probably my 110mm camera that had attachable flash bulbs. Move over Polaroid!

  19. The coolest tech toy I received as a kid was the 150 in 1 electronics lab. Make a radio, door buzzer, amplifier. Hours of fun.

  20. I can’t say I’ve ever received a really cool tech toy, but if we’re talking low-tech, I loved my Magna Doodle! (Well, and my first computer, but I never really considered that to be a toy… I was a pretty boring little kid.)

  22. One of my best toys was the PAC-MAN Handheld Tabletop. That was one of the ways to shut me up and to keep me still in one spot.

  23. The best toy for me is the Razor Power Core E90 Electric Scooter because anything that takes my lazy butt somewhere without wasting my own energy is a good thing.

  27. The absolute coolest tech toy at Best Buy is the YUNNEEC TYPHOON 4K DRONE!! Seriously though!! 🙂

  30. The coolest tech toy that I got as I kid that got me into electronics was the Tamagochi. I was so into taking care of a virtual pet that I would wake up so early to feed my pet.

  32. The coolest toys for me are the coding toys. I think kids at an early age should be taught analytical thinking thru toys or games. Coding toys not only are fun but helps kids figure out how things move or how to solve simple problems.

  34. Coolest tech toy I remember as a kid was my old Atari. I remember playing frogger and zaxxon all night long.

  36. The coolest toy on BestBuy.ca is definitely the DJI series drones. I’m a drone enthusiast who loves the DJI phantom series. Also, a key moment was when I got my first r/c car which I broke the day I got it.

  37. The coolest tech toy i had when i was a kid was a stereo system with a little black and white tv! I thought it was so awesome being able to watch tv in my bedroom and listen to music all on one device. Of course I only got 4 channels and the tv was small but to me that was awesome. I only had it about a year before it was stolen from robbers, but I did enjoy it while I had it.

  42. The best tech toy I had was my computer with the game commander keen on a 3 1/2 floppy disc. My monitor was brown and orange. It was awesome!

  50. my kids really enjoy Leapfrog learning games 🙂 so I think the coolest toy of 2016 is the Leapfrog Leappad
