Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

There are over $12000 in toys available to be won!

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  1. Well this dates me, but Atari is the only and coolest tech toy I had as a kid!

The hover board is my pick for the best at Best Buy!

  2. The best toy I remember from growing up would have to be a remote-controlled off-road car. It was honestly nothing special and would probably cost less than $100 today, but I loved that thing. It had bumpers at the front and back, ran on regular batteries, had forward, reverse, left and right controls. Truly simple, but I still have such fond memories.

  3. I think the coolest toy is Meccano Meccanoid G15 KS Personal Robot. Every time my 9 year old sees a robot she gets all excited and starts listing off ways in the future a robot can help people. Her excitement is contagious.

  4. I think the drones look very interesting for my grandson. But all the toys are what the grandkids would love to have. They would learn a lot about tech toys.

  5. I think the coolest tech toys are the drones. I would love to have one for my girls. When I was a kid we had some kind of circuit board thing that we could connect wires to different areas to make different sounds or make lights come on.

  6. The coolest tech toy is the VEX Robotics 4-in-1 Robotics Kit by HEXBUG – I would’ve loved this when I was a kid!

  7. Anything remote control is awesome especially when it can get the kids outside experimenting with ultimate terrain and jumps. Combining tech, adventure and imagination is the ultimate package. The drones and remote control vehicles would be my choice for best toys this year.

  8. The best toy I ever got was a remote control SUV. It was the best, loved it, mind you I would have loved to have received a drone but they were not around.

  9. Best tech toy I received when I was a child was an invention kit – not sure what they are called, but you could built a mini battery-powered toy – windmill, helicopter with a spinning propeller, a lighthouse, etc.

  10. The ultimate drones would be my favourite new tech toys. I am a big photography lover and am amazed at the beautiful images and videos they take.

  11. Drones would be my pick as the best tech toy – they give us a whole new perspective on the world around us, even for those who have a fear of highs or flying.

  12. The bb8 remote control is the coolest ever. I am sure my kids would be fighting over this for hours at a time
I would the best thing I got as a gift as a kid was an Atari. Top of the line then and you were the high light of anyone coming over for a visit.

  13. I think the best cool tech toy is the ultimate drones like yunneek typhoon 4K which I plan to buy this holiday. As far I remember the only cool toy I got when I’m a kid is the remote F1 racing which I always played for 5 years before I gave it to for donation.

  14. Drones are by far the best tetchy toys out there. With the 4K cameras the video captured is the best. I shot some in the drumheller badlands and the footage just blows you away!

  15. The YUNNEEC TYPHOON 4K looks like so much fun! It would be perfect for my daughter, who has a little helicopter she can control from her phone.

  16. Coolest te echt toy when I was a kid was my electrical board kit… Don’t remember exactly what it was called but I loved making a Morse code walkie talkie with springs and wires.

  17. My favorite tech-y toy when I was a kid was Light Bright. I could would spend hours creating colourful crystalline worlds and images. It was the perfect creative outlet for this kid. 😀

  18. 1. When it comes to what I believe will have the greatest impact for tech toys in 2016, I would have to use my son as an example and say that any “Ultimate Toy” would be on his wish list. Drones have become very widespread over the past couple of years and with the new advancements and a price tag that is gradually declining to become affordable to all, I truly think that Drones are going to be a big seller over the holidays.

    2. Of course getting the very first edition of Nintendo was a very exciting Christmas morning way back in the 80’s (that memory is way up there on the top of my list!) but when it boils down to one particular toy that I received that I was the most excited about though, I would have to say that it was the little mermaid talking Ariel pull string doll. I’m an adult now and I can distinctly remember that very Christmas morning where I opened that doll.

As a parent, I can only hope that my son will have the same types of memories of being that excited opening a gift, when he grows up.
This is an amazing opportunity that you’re offering. Thank You!
    Best of luck to all!

  19. I think the coolest tech toy of 2016 are the Sphyro Spech Ed BB-8 Droids. My kids are totally into coding & science (especially my girls) and they’ve had an opportunity to get some hands on time with a sphyro earlier this year. I’d love to surprise them with one for Christmas. I definitely would win the coolest mom of the year awards. 😀

  20. “Way back when” my coolest toy was an Easy Bake Oven and I was the only one on the block with one so it made it extra COOL! Nowadays, my grandchildren find educational tech type toys challenging and it’s nice to see they are real attention holders. Everything improves with age!
