The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge in titanium black and titanium silver.

Samsung leans into nostalgia by reviving the idea of slim smartphones with its newest premium device, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. At just 163 grams, it’s the lightest Galaxy flagship in recent memory and it’s clear that its thin and lightweight design is the standout feature. Samsung first teased the Galaxy S25 Edge when it launched the Galaxy S25 series in January 2025, but now it’s evident that aesthetics and form factor are the keys to what this phone is about. I got some hands-on time with the device to feel the difference for myself.

About the Galaxy S25 Edge

The most obvious visual point is how thin the S25 Edge is. Measuring 5.8mm thin, it’s the thinnest phone Samsung’s manufactured since the Galaxy A8 in 2015, which was only a smidgen larger at 5.9mm. As for the feathery weight, the company hasn’t made anything this light since 2013 with the Galaxy Light, though that device has very little in common with the Edge.

It has more in common with the Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Much like how Samsung pieces together components and parts from different phones for its Galaxy FE handsets, it takes a similar approach here. It has the same 6.78-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display as the S25+ and the same titanium edges as the S25 Ultra. The height and width otherwise mirror those of the S25+.

One thing that is new is the screen has Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection, while the back retains the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 used across the S25 line. IP68 dust and water protection also follow the others in the line.

Internally, the S25 Edge sticks with many of the same components from the S25+ and S25 Ultra. You get 12GB of RAM and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Storage tiers are only between 256GB and 512GB models. Like the S25+, there’s no S Pen compatibility, though biometrics like facial recognition and ultrasonic fingerprint sensor carry over. On the software front, the S25 Edge joins its siblings in offering seven years of Android OS and security updates, with the same One UI features users have come to expect.

Cutting things down for size

To trim things down, Samsung had to give up certain features. The most obvious is there’s no telephoto lens. Instead, it sports just two rear cameras: a 200-megapixel main camera (from the S25 Ultra) and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide (from the S25+). Doing so reduces the overall size of the camera bump in the rear but also limits the range in capturing a subject from further away.

Samsung points out that the high-resolution main camera can offer quality digital crops to compensate for the lack of optical zoom. That’s never been true in most instances with other phones, so seems unlikely to be different in this case. I didn’t get the chance to test the cameras but given my experience with the other Galaxy S25 devices, I would expect similar output with the Edge.

The battery is another spec that required a diet. The Galaxy S25 Edge carries a much smaller 3,900mAh battery—significantly less than the S25+ (4,900mAh) and S25 Ultra (5,000mAh). That puts it closer to the Galaxy Z Flip6 (4,000mAh), which isn’t great compared to standard bar smartphone designs. The S25 Edge has a higher-resolution screen and more powerful chipset, so real-world usage will be the ultimate test.

On the bright side, you still get wireless charging, including reverse charging, except wired charging caps at 25W—another step down from the 45W charging supported by its siblings.

Galaxy AI carries on

Coming so soon after the rest of the Galaxy S25 lineup, the S25 Edge can run the same Galaxy AI features. That includes newer ones like the Now Brief and Now Bar, as well as tools that tie in with Google Gemini. That includes Cross-app Actions, Gemini’s ability to access multiple apps at once for more complex tasks.

As for the camera, Samsung says “the camera transforms into a smart lens that helps recognize what matters to create new memories.” That mostly refers to the existing photo editing and generative AI features. Circle to Search, for example, where you can take a photo and circle anything in it to search what it is or where you can buy it. Best Face is the main one for choosing the best face in a series of group or portrait photos. Generative Edit lets you remove or relocate objects in a photo.

Samsung isn’t messing with any of that for the S25 Edge, so consider this more of a complement to what the other models deliver. As is the case with those, all AI-edited images on the Edge will include a Samsung watermark.
