Ring is my favourite home security manufacturer. I’ve tried many. When my children were young I had a complete Brinks alarm system in my home, which worked fine, but was pricey. Since then, however, smart home products have become the most popular solution due to the low cost, high dependability, and—well let’s face it, smart home products are very cool! Enter this contest and Ring will have your home covered with some great home security products.
What makes Ring really smart
My top 3 favourite things about Ring are the ease of use, the great notifications, and the customer service. Ease of use of the app and the devices is just one really smart thing about Ring. I started adding Ring products to my home on Mayne Island about 15 months ago. They are so easy to install! I now have 2 outdoor security lights; one over the entrance to my carport, and one at the side of the house overlooking the main driveway to the house. I also have a video doorbell at the front door, and one at the backdoor. These work seamlessly with the Ring app on my phone: I can easily switch from one camera to the other at any time to see what is happening at the location. Also, I can activate the external lights on the cameras as I approach my home for personal safety.
Notifications work great and keep improving. When I first started using Ring, I was annoyed that notifications seemed spotty: sometimes the action that triggered the notification was over before the camera started recording. However, Ring keeps improving their app and their products, so that issue is a thing of the past. That brings me to one of the smartest things about Ring: responsive customer service! As I said I have used many different smart home products from many manufacturers, and Ring is probably the best at customer service. Just to be clear, I did not ever present myself to them as the Editor-in-Chief at Best Buy, one day likely to write an article about their products. I just told them that i am Martin, living on a little island off the coast of British Columbia.
Why did I contact them? I made an error (totally my fault) and broke the backing plate of the camera. Within a few days of explaining my problem, I had the part at my home, and the camera was installed in minutes. As I said, great service!
What are your smart home concerns
Why did I go into so much detail about their service? Well, Ring has recently started offering a home security package, with home monitoring of entry points, and keypads, motion detectors—everything you expect from home security. I have not tested this product yet, but given what I’ve learned about Ring, I expect that they will offer great service here as well.
So, tell me what are you looking for to make your home smart? Are you very concerned about the service you get? Perhaps you are most interested in getting some cameras around your home, or smart doorbells, or something else. One thing I forgot to mention is the great subscription package they offer. Most of the main home security companies require a subscription to get the most from their products. I love that with Ring, one very low price covers everything: video storage from all of the devices at your home, and home monitoring if you have their Wireless Home Security Alarm. All of it … one low monthly price. Now that is very smart!

my concern is we are in the city and people are always breaking into others houses. If we have this security system, we can at least be assured that we have it on camera.

I want to see who is ringing the doorbell before opening it. Video Doorbell 2 would help.
As a senior a video doorbell would help me know who is at the door without opening it.
We recently moved to a house on a quiet cul de sac so a flood light with a video cam would be great to know who is in the neighbourhood.
I’m a senior and it can be difficult to run to the front door when the doorbell rings so having a video doorbell would be very useful for me.
We’ve started modestly installing inside smarthome devices. I have a young family and often work late or I am away so all these security devices would be a great addition to our home.
Our backyard backs onto a large parking lot so having an alarm system and a floodlight cam when really enhance our security.
As a senior it can be difficult to get to the front door quickly when the doorbell rings. Also if I am alone I can be nervour about who is at the door so a doorbell with videocam would be great.
I would love to have a security camera/floodlight for our driveway. We have had our car broken into a number of times so this would give us some real security.
In would like the securirty camera to know who was at the door. Sometimes you can’t see who’s at the door.

My biggest concern is 24/7 visibility of my entrance. The Ring Wi-Fi Video Doorbell 2 would allow me to address this.
I love all the features but I think the one that would be best for me is the Video Doorbell. I like to see who is at the door before I run all the way from wherever I happen to be in the house to find out it is just someone collecting bottles or trying to sign me up for something I neither want nor need.

Having the Ring Spotlight Wireless Outdoor 1080p IP Camera would help in identifying those perpetrating petty thefts and vandalism in our neighbourhood.

the video doorbell to feel more secure
We have had people checking our vehicles and have installed excellent security lighting but a far better camera would be great. Especially having notifications to my phone.
We seem to have a lot of vandalizm in our neighbourhood. Having the Ring Spotlight Wireless Outdoor 1080p IP Camera would allow us to be able to identify the vandals and help with any investigations
We need to ensure our elderly mother’s safety when we are not at home.

We get a lot of rowdy strangers cutting through our yard on the way to/from the bar near us. It would be nice to have extra security just on the off chance something got vandalized or some other issue came up. It would be for peace of mind more than anything.
I think a spotlight cam would be great. However, my husband really wants a video doorbell because he thinks they’re cool 🙂
