Sackboy

The PlayStation 5 is quite possibly the hottest item this holiday season. If you were lucky enough to get one, you’ll know there are plenty of good games to go along with the system. However, there is one game in particular that I can’t stop playing—Sackboy A Big Adventure, so I’ll tell you about it for day 11 of 12 days of Christmas.

12 days of Christmas: Day 11 is Sackboy A Big Adventure

In case you are unfamiliar with Sackboy, he is one of the many iconic PlayStation characters who is the star of the LittleBigPlanet series of games that spanned across PS3, PSP, PS Vita and PS4. The main idea behind the games was to give gamers the tools to create their own unique worlds and levels to play in.

However, Sackboy A Big Adventure is a brand new 3D platforming adventure game. It’s different from the LittleBigPlanet games as it focuses solely on platforming and it allows you to fully explore 3D open environments with 3 other players.

Sackboy to the rescue!

The game’s story is centred around a mythical being who has kidnapped all of your friends and wants to turn your fun and loving home into a barren land of nightmares. A prophecy of the ancient order of the Knitted Knights tells of a hero who will save Craftworld along with its inhabitants and rid the land of evil.

That’s where you step in as Sackboy, Craftworlds saviour! Controls in the game have been redefined from the LittleBigPlanet series and now control much more precisely. The game’s areas are split up into several different themes. And, they are jam packed with items to collect and areas to explore. Even after playing the levels a few times, I still found something new.

Each area has a certain number of orbs to explore that will help you advance in the game. Additionally, you are granted special bell rewards for your performance. These can be used to “purchase” different cosmetic outfits and accessories in the game to give Sackboy a brand new look.

Gorgeous visuals and multiplayer fun

In addition to redefined gameplay, Sackboy A Big Adventure features 4k visuals at 60 frames per second. Each and every level is alive and filled with detail. The game’s undeniable charm will have you smiling all the way through. The PS5’s DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers allow you to feel the grass as you walk through it. And, you can feel the tension on cables as you pull them out of the ground—among many other things.

However, what I like most about Sackboy A Big Adventure is its multiplayer component. You and up to 3 other local players can enjoy the game together. Additionally, there are specific multiplayer only levels that you and your friends must work together as a team to complete.

As much as I enjoyed playing the game by myself, playing with 3 other friends and family members is soo much fun! A free online multiplayer update is planned before the end of the year. So, you’ll be able to play online with your friends.

  1. If only it was possible to find a PS5 to play it on 🙁 I would face covid risk to line up in the cold to get a new console, online shopping has brought out scalpers like never before. And I’d be self isolated for at least 2 weeks after, playing games! (to anyone who has experienced loss because of covid, please don’t take my joke as an offense, my condolences go out to anyone who have been negatively effected or have experienced loss because of covid)
