CES 2019 is a great place to read about the latest TVs, appliances, and computers, but don’t forget about the newest innovations to hit the health care market. This is a big year for brands like Withings, Philips, and Muse, so let’s dive right in and see how the latest tech can help you take care of your health in 2019.

The current state of health tech

Although the new devices released at CES 2019 are exciting, there’s a lot to be excited about in health care devices right now.

Over the past few years we’ve seen smart scales hit the market that give you more than just a weight. Smart Scales are a accurate and helpful way to record everything from your current weight to how much you’ve lost, your body mass index, and in some cases, your heart rate.

You don’t have to fight to get an accurate temperature from your little one anymore. The latest thermometers will hover over your forehead and get a reading in an instant.

Want to meditate but don’t know how? All you need is a meditation headband like Muse. It walks you through meditation and helps you find calm.

Blood pressure used to be something only your doctor could tell you, but blood pressure cuffs are now at-home devices you can use to stay on top of your health. You can record the data to take to your doctor for the most accurate picture of how you’re managing.

The latest health tech from CES 2019

The big health care device brands didn’t disappoint at CES 2019. Here’s a quick look at a few exciting health tech devices you’ll be seeing this year.

Withings BPM Core

Withings was one of the first companies to come out with health tech, and I still use the Withings Aura alarm clock to soothe myself to sleep at night. This year Withings announced the BPM Core, and it won the CES Innovation Award at CES 2019.

The Withings BPM Core is a three-in-one device that measures ECG, blood pressure, and heart rate. ECG can be used to detect irregular heart rhythms that can lead to heart failure or stroke, and before this device you couldn’t get this type of data outside of a doctor’s office.

The Withings BPM Core also has a digital stethoscope to detect valvular heart disease, a serious disease involving your heart valves. With a rechargeable battery that uses micro USB to charge, all it takes is 90 seconds to get readings from all three functions. You can also use the ECG, blood pressure, or heart rate monitor separately.

All data is uploaded to Withings easy-to-use Health Mate app. I’ve used this app for over a year and find it simple to navigate. It holds a treasure trove of information about your health, and you can assign different user profiles to one device.

Philips SmartSleep Snoring Relief Band

For some people, sleep is hard to come by. It’s even harder to get those ZZZ’s if you’re a light sleeper and your spouse is someone who snores.

Philips wants to stop the snoring and improve your sleep with a new family of products. The Philips SmartSleep Snoring Relief Band is one of them. This band fits around your chest and has sensors to track your sleep and when you change positions. If you shift onto your back, a position where a snorer can really hit the high notes, the sensor will encourage that person to change positions.

You can check out the Philips Smart Sleep site for more information on how the company plans on helping you sleep.

Muse Softband

You’ve probably heard of Muse, the meditating headband with brain sensing technology. This year Muse unveiled the Muse Softband at CES 2019, and although this is the third generation, it’s also the first time they’ve come out with a soft band.

The softband will help you meditate as you fall asleep, then track your sleep behavior using their proprietary brand-sensing technology. Once you wake up in the morning, Muse will have data you can use to improve your sleep patterns.

If you use your Alexa to get to sleep every night, you’ll be able to continue to do so. You just ask Alexa to play a guided meditation and you’re off to dream land with your Muse. You can also use the Softband for other tasks, but the company hasn’t shared that information yet.

Meditating, sleeping, and tracking your health statistics are just a few ways you can keep on top of your health care and self care. I’m looking forward to when these health care devices are released later this year, but in the meantime you can check out Best Buy for all health tech right now.
