fitness mainChoosing and buying the right fitness equipment for yourself is a big decision. If you’re looking to grow your current fitness regime, now is a great time to add to your home gym. If you’re starting fresh, setting up a home gym will encourage you to get a little exercise each day. I’ve also found having a small home gym has encouraged my growing boys to take the initiative to improve their health and fitness.

Versatile treadmills

treadmillTreadmills are one of the most popular pieces of exercise equipment, and I think it’s because they’re easy to use, they’re versatile for all levels of fitness, and they provide amazing results. While they do take up some significant space while in use, there are options when it comes to size and there’s always the foldable option.

Many treadmills on the market today have a Quick start feature which means you can be exercising with just the push of a button. I think treadmills used to be known as the go-to piece of fitness equipment for jogging, especially when the weather isn’t optimal, but they’re so much more than that. A treadmill is versatile and allows you to tailor your fitness program to meet your physical fitness needs. With the ability to adjust your speed and incline you can go from jogging a flat surface to hiking a mountain in seconds. Overall, a great treadmill offers a flexible and natural way to add exercise into your daily or weekly routine.

Choose an elliptical

ellipticalI love an elliptical because they feel like a fluid combination of running and biking which are two of my favourite ways to exercise. They’re very easy to use and are low-impact which makes them the perfect piece of fitness equipment for anyone who has any joint issues. When it comes to having an elliptical in your home, you’ll first want to make sure you have the perfect space for it. They are an upright machine but also have a larger base for stability.

With an elliptical, you have the option of holding the stationary handgrips and just using the pedals for cardio and lower body workout or use both the pedals and moveable handles for a complete body workout. Many also offer an incline option as well as a range of resistance. I love going hiking and with a steep incline and plenty of resistance you can use an elliptical to replicate a hike. The benefit of this is the smoothness of the elliptical and not having to manoeuver around rocks and tree roots.

Bike benefits

exercise bikeExercise bikes have become quite a popular piece of fitness equipment lately. They don’t take up too much space in the home and offer a whole-body workout on a tight schedule. They’ve been a home gym staple for years and with the options of a recumbent bike or the traditional style design, they’re versatile enough for anyone to use.

Bike riding burns serious calories, up to 700 calories in just one hour of fast pedaling. Adding an exercise bike to your fitness equipment is one of the best ways to meet your fitness goals this year. With the help of social media and apps, you can join some great like-minded communities to keep you motivated and accountable too.

Free weights to tone and strengthen

free weightsI’ve recently added a variety of free weights such as dumbbells and kettlebells to my home gym and I’m feeling stronger than ever. They take up minimal space and come in a selection of weights to fit your fitness level.

If lifting weights is new to you starting with resistance bands and ankle weights is the way to go. I’ve been finding some quick and easy workouts to do in the comfort of my home online and having accessible equipment and motivating videos with simple and easy to follow steps makes all the difference in keeping me motivated.

If you have the space for a home gym then you’re lucky to be able to have a variety of home fitness equipment, but many of us have limited space which makes it important to do your research and get the right fitness equipment to help you reach your fitness goals. As a mom of two growing sons it’s great to purchase a piece of fitness equipment that the whole family can use safely and effectively.

You can find a large variety of home fitness equipment, and the right pieces for your personal fitness goals at Best Buy.
