Today, I’m going to be reviewing two gaming peripherals, the ASUS ROG AZOTH wireless NX Keyboard and the ASUS ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab edition mouse. In this review I’ll discuss their design, controls, connectivity, gaming performance, and software.
ASUS ROG Azoth wireless NX Keyboard
The ASUS ROG Azoth is a 75% gaming keyboard that uses the ASUS ROG NX mechanical switches. It has double shot PBT keycaps, an OLED display, three-way control knob, and support for Windows and Mac.
Unboxing ASUS ROG Azoth
When you open the box of the ASUS ROG Azoth you’re immediately met with the Azoth keyboard. Below that you’ll find a large number of accessories including DIY tools for your keyboard. These tools include: a keycap remover, switch remover, switch disassembler, switch lube, and a lube brush. ASUS also included a braided USB-C cable and a wireless adapter dongle.
Unique and solid design
As I mentioned earlier, the ASUS ROG Azoth is a 75% keyboard. This means that the keyboard is only 75% of a full size keyboard. The Azoth unit comes in either a black or white colour scheme. All keys on the Azoth are backlit with RGB lighting. On the top right hand side of the keyboard is a 2” OLED monitor and a control wheel.
The top plate of the ROG Azoth is made of aluminum giving the keyboard a solid and durable feel. The bottom plate is made of plastic—this is done to provide the best wireless signals for both the Bluetooth and 2.4GHz connections. Along the front of the keyboard is where you’ll find the connectivity toggle, storage for the 2.4GHz wireless dongle, and a USB-C port. Along the bottom of the keyboard there are two staged keyboard feet so that you can adjust the keyboard angle to your liking.
Responsive ASUS ROG NX mechanical switches
The ASUS ROG Azoth comes in Storm, Red, Brown, and Blue switches. The Azoth test model that I received came with ROG NX Snow switches. All switches and stabilizers of the Azoth come pre-lubed, making them smooth and responsive right out of the box.
Adding to the already smooth experience, the Azoth’s switches are mounted on silicone gaskets giving users a more cushioned feel while typing. To prevent unwanted sounds while playing games and typing ASUS included a thick 3.5mm silicone pad and two foam layers. This ensures that the only sound you’ll hear from the keyboard are the mechanical keys.
The keycaps of the Azoth are doubleshot PBT and have a nice tactile texture. Because the Azoth is compatible with both Windows and Mac, ASUS made sure to include the keycap labels for both operating systems.
Convenient OLED screen and control knob
One of the first things I noticed about the Azoth when I took it out of the box was the large two inch OLED screen on the top right side of the keyboard. Beside the display is a three-way control knob that allows you to adjust keyboard settings, control media, and monitor your computer systems. When not in use, the OLED screen can be customized to show different animations and information.
Impressive long battery life
The battery life of the ASUS ROG Azoth is impressive. With the RGB backlighting and OLED screen turned off, you’re able to achieve over 2000 hours of battery life on the Azoth. Even with the RGB lighting and OLED screen set to 100% brightness, after two weeks of testing the keyboard still had 85% battery remaining. In case you do need to charge the Azoth, there is a USB-C port located on the top left side of the keyboard.
ASUS ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab edition mouse
The ASUS ROG Harpe Ace is a gaming mouse made in partnership with Aim Lab. This mouse is built with accuracy in mind, it has up to 36000 DPI and less than a 1% CPI deviation. What this means is that this mouse tracks extremely well and is incredibly responsive to player movements.
Simple unboxing with some nice accessories
The unboxing of the ASUS ROG Harpe Ace is simple and straightforward. The box unfolds to reveal the mouse and accessories. The accessories include: an adapter for the 2.4GHz dongle, a USB-C charging cable, grip tape, and extra mouse pad feet.
Basic and minimalist design
The ASUS ROG Harpe Ace has a subtle mouse aesthetic that comes in an all black or white colour scheme. The Harpe Ace doesn’t have the sharp angles and bright LED’s of traditional gaming mice. Instead, it looks more like a traditional wireless mouse with an RGB scroll wheel. Taking the Harpe Ace out of the box, I was surprised at just how light it was. When I put it on a scale, the mouse weighs in at a mere 54 grams.
The ROG Harpe Ace has a good number of buttons that would satisfy any gamer. There are five customizable buttons on the top of the mouse. These buttons are the standard left, right buttons, the center scroll wheel, and two thumb buttons. These buttons can be reassigned to perform various functions through ASUS’s Armoury Crate software. Along the bottom of the mouse you have two additional buttons for adjusting DPI as well as Bluetooth pairing. Along the right hand side of the bottom of the mouse you’ll also see a wireless and wired connection toggle.
Designed for comfort
The ROG Harpe Ace is immensely comfortable to use for long gaming sessions. The arch allows me to comfortably rest my hand on the mouse. Combined with its light weight the Harpe Ace is a great companion while gaming. If you need a stronger grasp on the mouse, ASUS also includes a series of grip tapes in the box. You can add this grip tape anywhere to help you maintain a better grasp of the mouse.
A long lasting battery life
The ROG Harpe Ace has a good battery life for a mouse of this weight and size. According to the ASUS website, the Harpe Ace has 90 hours of battery with the RGB lighting turned off, and 79 hours of battery with the RGB turned on.
I kept the RGB on during my testing of the Harpe Ace. Over the course of two weeks playing games 2-4 hours daily, the battery of the Harpe Ace only dropped 12%. If you do need to charge the mouse there is a USB-C port located on the front of the mouse.
Gaming performance of the ASUS ROG Azoth and Harpe Ace
I tested both the ASUS ROG Azoth and Harpe Ace on games like Warzone 2 and Halo Infinite. For my testing, I used the wireless 2.4GHz connection on both the keyboard and mouse. After two weeks of intense use I can wholeheartedly say that both the Azoth keyboard and the Harpe Ace mouse are fantastic peripherals for casual and competitive gamers. Both devices are responsive and at no point in time did I have any issues with lagging or dropped connections.
While playing first person shooter games like Warzone 2, the Harpe Ace mouse is exceptionally accurate. This made micro movements and aiming at enemy players much easier leading to a more enjoyable gaming session. The Azoth keyboard is equally as enjoyable to use, ASUS’s multi foam and sound dampening layers made typing and playing on the keyboard quiet. My teammates couldn’t hear any button presses even while I was frantically pressing keys during battle. After playing for hours both my hands remained comfortable and didn’t experience any fatigue.
Another feature that I liked about the ROG Azoth was the OLED screen and three-way control knob. Using this knob I was easily able to make adjustments to game volume as well as quickly glance at my PC information.
Overall, I enjoyed my time with the ASUS ROG Azoth keyboard and Harpe Ace mouse.
Tri-mode connectivity
Both the ASUS ROG Azoth and Harpe Ace have tri-mode connectivity. This means users can connect wirelessly through the 2.4GHz dongle or Bluetooth. You can also connect to the keyboard and mouse using the included hardwire USB-C cable. While plugged in, the USB-C cable will charge the keyboard and mouse. If you’re playing games using the 2.4GHz wireless connection or USB-C cable, you will have the lowest latency and fastest response from the Azoth and Harpe Ace.
ASUS Armoury Crate software
Both the ASUS ROG Azoth and Harpe Ace can be customized using the ASUS Armoury Crate software. Installing this software will allow you to unlock the full potential of the mouse and keyboard. Using this application you can do things such as create profiles, adjust RGB lighting, assign buttons, and set lighting alerts.
Final thoughts on the ASUS ROG Azoth keyboard and Harpe Ace mouse
Both the ASUS ROG Azoth wireless NX Keyboard and the ASUS ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab edition mouse are superb gaming peripherals. I loved the OLED screen and control knob of the Azoth keyboard. These allowed me to make on the fly adjustments while keeping focus on the game I was playing. I also liked the hefty and solid build of the Azoth, it really felt like this keyboard is durable and could stand the test of time. I loved the Harpe Ace’s light weight and accuracy, which allowed me to make quick adjustments in my aim while battling multiple enemy players.
Overall, I couldn’t speak more highly of both the Azoth and Harpe Ace. If you’re in the market for a new gaming keyboard and mouse, I highly suggest you take a look at the ASUS ROG Azoth keyboard and the ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab edition mouse.
