HP announced a series of new products at CES, including new Elitebook laptops, desktops, gaming devices and updates to its AI platform. It’s also targeting freelancers and work-from-home professionals with some of its upcoming products. Not to mention gamers, who can expect a lot to come in the Omen line this year.
New Elitebook and laptops
There’s the Elitebook Ultra G1i, which HP is calling “the first next-gen AI business notebook with a 9-megapixel camera.” Since it is a Poly Cam Pro webcam, it would work with what it deems a “personal recording studio” courtesy of the AI-powered Poly conference and Poly Studio audio features.
It’s also claiming to have the largest haptic trackpad on any business notebook to date with 100 responsive surface areas no matter where you click. A 14-inch 3K display gives it a higher resolution than the other new Elitebooks, coming in either touch or non-touch options.
The other models are the Elitebook X G1i and Elitebook X Flip G1i, both enterprise-grade 14-inch laptops. They max out at 2.5K (2560 x 1600) but will be more widely available with 1920 x 1200 resolution screens. The biggest immediate difference is the X Flip G1i rotates back 360-degrees to turn it into a makeshift tablet. Neither of these two get the same 9-megapixel webcam the Ultra does, going instead with the standard 5-megapixel Poly Cam Pro HP is utilizing across its current lineup.
AI will also play a role with the webcam through Sure View, which uses onboard sensors to dim the screen and narrow the viewing angle to avoid peeping eyes from seeing what you’re working on. Given all of the new Elitebooks can handle 48 TOPS of NPU performance, it will be interesting to see how smooth and robust features like that turn out to be.
They will all run on the latest-gen Intel Core Ultra 5 or 7 processors, including different configurations for RAM (16GB or 32GB) and storage (256GB and up to 2TB). All share similar connectivity options with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A and headphone/microphone jack.
AI Companion
We’ve covered the basics of HP’s AI Companion before when it launched its Omnibook laptops but look for the company to continue building it in 2025. The AI assistant works locally on the devices running it, and can help personalize settings and help draft or summarize emails and documents. It may also be able to help put together presentations.
It is specifically designed for HP hardware because it runs on the devices themselves and uses generative AI to index, analyze and access personal files when you need them. You can sift through and pluck out specific documents by asking for them, or change PC settings using plain language rather than tech jargon. It doesn’t require a subscription, either. It’s also not backward-compatible, meaning only HP next-gen AI PCs will be able to run the AI Companion software.
OmniStudio all-in-one desktops
The OmniStudio X all-in-one desktop is HP’s first next-gen AI PC coming in 27-inch and 32-inch models, featuring a neural processing unit (NPU) with up to 47 TOPS to handle Microsoft Copilot+ capabilities. They will run on Intel Core Ultra 200V processors, which HP claims will lead to as much as a 244% increase in NPU performance and a modest bump in CPU and graphics output compared to the previous gen.
Both have 4K displays with really thin bezels, with HDR 600 certification and 95% of the P3 color gamut on the 32-inch model. They each have the same 5-megapixel Poly Cam Pro webcam that can manage Windows Hello hands-free logins, along with Poly Studio mics and speakers.
It comes with a USB-C port in the rear with DisplayPort functionality, enabling you to control other devices when plugging them in. This way, you could plug in your laptop and use the desktop’s keyboard and mouse to control both. It charges the laptop at the same time.
HP Omen AI software
One of the more intriguing announcements for HP’s gaming lineup is its Omen AI software. It will start as a beta, where the premise is to use machine learning to customize and adjust both hardware and in-game performance settings to maximize the experience. They’re supposed to be personalized and allow you the option to engage them on your own.
Within the Omen Gaming Hub, the AI will recognize the games you play and suggest settings or features you might want to employ. HP is looking at first-person shooters (FPS) games first, announcing that Counter-Strike will be the first to fully integrate this system. More games will follow to meet HP’s goal of dozens of titles, company reps say.
Powder AI is another feature that takes streamed or recorded gameplay and clips out the best snippets, like winning a match or a key move to gain an advantage over opponents. The AI model will also be able to do this for longer recordings or multiple ones to put together a single montage.
HP Omen gaming devices
The company is launching its “most powerful gaming laptop” yet with the Omen Max 16. HP says it increased the overall power and performance while running on the latest components. That includes NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX 50 graphics chips and your choice of Intel Core Ultra (7 or 9) or AMD Ryzen (AI 7 350 or AI 9 HX 375) CPUs.
The 16-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) OLED screen will have a few variations depending on chipset. The Intel version has a 0.2ms response time, UWVA, 500 nits HDR peak brightness, 100% DCI-P3 variable refresh rate at 48-240Hz. AMD models have 60-240Hz variable refresh rate support in sRGB and 3ms response time. It’s also an IPS panel rather than OLED. You can choose to go with a lower-res IPS panel (1920 x 1200) without losing the other key screen features. It’s just the OLED screen does more to filter out blue light.
Configurations range between 16GB-64GB of RAM, plus 512GB, 1TB or 2TB storage options. A four-zone RGB-backlit keyboard is available on all trims, complemented by an RGB light bar along the front. There are two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C (40Gbps) ports supporting DisplayPort 1.4 for the Intel version, whereas the AMD version doesn’t have the Thunderbolt designation. There are two USB-A ports (10Gbps), Ethernet, headphone/microphone jack and HDMI 2.1 port.
HP claims better thermal performance to keep things cooler under the hood, including a reverse fan to remove dust and keep fans clean. The fan spins in the opposite direction every four hours.
HyperX will handle audio for these upcoming Omen laptops. In addition, new HyperX accessories, like headphones, mouse and controllers, will also instantly pair with them—up to three at one time. The new Pulsefire Saga and Saga Pro will have various parts to enable more personalized use.
Omen smart gaming monitor
The Omen 32x Smart Gaming Monitor is a 4K (3860 x 2160) monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It has 144Hz with a 1 ms response time and 1000:1 contrast ratio and 400 nits peak brightness. It will also run Google TV, making it more of an entertainment hub than a standalone screen. On the one hand, HP says this will streamline access to cloud gaming, as well as popular content apps usually accessible on TVs and mobile devices.
With a built-in Chromecast, it will also bridge with smartphones and tablets to playback content that way. You can use your Android device as a supporting device when playing games on the monitor. As for ports, it has one DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1, one USB-C, two USB-A, an Aux-Out and Ethernet port (only for Google TV).
All of the new announced products are coming in 2025 at different times, and I’ll update this story once I learn more. In the meantime, check out all the latest HP devices available now.
