Acer showed up at the Consumer Electronics Show with a strong lineup of new consumer laptops, an intriguing line of premium transforming laptops for creative professionals, and the ultimate chair for PC gamers. Here are some of the highlights from Acer at CES 2020, including photos snapped by a Best Buy Canada representative who was at the show.
New Spin and Swift Laptops
Acer has updated its popular Spin and Swift series laptops with new processors. Most of the lineup gets new 10th generation Intel CPUs, while an AMD Ryzen 4000 will be offered on the Swift 14-inch model.
Among other benefits, those new processors will pay off big time in terms of battery life. Acer says the Swift 3 will deliver 16 hours of use on a charge. The Spin series, with 360-degree hinges, get a built-in Active Stylus with an integrated charge/storage slot on the laptop. The larger of the two (the 15-inch Spin 5) will be able to deliver 15 hours of battery life on a charge.
Predator gaming lineup includes awesome Predator Thronos Air gaming chair
Acer’s Predator line of gaming PCs and accessories have always been a favourite among gamers. Naturally the company was showing off plenty of new and updated Predator gear. That included the Predator CG552K. This is a monster of a gaming monitor, with a 55-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and Nvidia G-Sync compatibility.
Actually, going big was something of a theme this year with Acer. It was also showing off the Predator Thronos Air gaming chair. This is a slightly revised version that has been modified to be a little more affordable than the original concept, now that it’s being released as an actual retail product. Mind you, with a gaming chair mounted inside a pod equipped with three 27-inch curved monitors, this is still not going to be an impulse purchase—if it ever comes to Canada.
ConceptD 7 Ezel
One of the most buzz-worthy products being shown off at CES 2020 was Acer’s ConceptD Ezel 7 laptops, especially the ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro. They are based on the idea of the company’s Predator Triton 900, a massive gaming laptop with a rotating 17-inch display that was released last year.
Aimed at creatives instead of gamers, ConceptD laptops feature powerful processors, discrete GPUs, plenty of ports, and extremely high quality displays. These are 4K UHD PANTONE Validated displays that support stylus input.
And the displays are mounted on a special Ezel hinge that lets them be used in a number of ways, including as a slate for drawing, and floating over the keyboard. You can also use it as a traditional laptop, of course. The ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro (which brought home a CES 2020 Innovation award) is equipped with an Intel Xeon processor and Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 Graphics—this is a serious laptop.
It’s also not meant for a mass market demographic … But don’t worry, there will be plenty of other new Acer products from CES 2020 hitting Best Buy shelves in 2020.
