Can you believe September is here? It seems like it was just yesterday that the kids were getting out of school and now they’re all heading back to class; some willingly and some not so willingly. My kids would fall into the not-so-willing group, but it’s always good to get them back into their fall routine.
One of the ways I get my kids excited about fall is remind them that it means all of the great fall fun they look forward to is right around the corner. Halloween is next month, Thanksgiving is coming, and yes, the Christmas countdown is on. That means the calendar starts getting busier after a quiet summer and the shelves of Best Buy start stocking up for a fun fall and winter.
Are you ready for fall? There’s some great stuff hitting the shelves to help you say goodbye to summer and hello to fall, so here’s what’s new at Best Buy for September.
Dyson 360 Eye
If you’ve been waiting to get a robot vacuum and you’re determined that this is your year, you’ve got to take a look at the Dyson 360 Eye.
Lindsey did a review of it recently and this little wonder has suction to spare. Powered with the same motor you’d find on a full sized Dyson and with a full 360 view of your house, it will take in all of the bumps and obstacles in its path and carve a clean sweep across your floors.
You can control the Dyson 360 Eye with your smartphone to schedule cleaning or check on its progress. When the battery needs a recharge it will head straight back to its dock, recharge, and head back to the spot where it left off.
I can’t imagine a better feeling than walking into my house and having all of the floors spotless, and you can do that every single day with the Dyson 360 Eye.
Great new holiday toys
It might feel a bit too early to talk about your Christmas lists, but because September is when the hottest holiday toys start arriving, it’s a good time to get your bearings and figure out what you’ll buy. It’s also, as I’ve learnt in the past, not too early to buy because the hottest toys sell out by October or November at the latest.
We live in a computer world and our kids one tech savvy generation. That’s why coding toys have been gaining popularity and are going to be huge this year. Teaching your kids coding while young gives them a leg up on a great life skill they’ll need as they get older.
My kids are really interested in the WowWee COJI coding robot. He’ll teach your kids how to code and solve problems via code, and they can also use it to play memory games or improve their sensory skills. You can control COJI using an app on your smartphone or tablet.
If you’ve got little ones, you’ll want to check out the Fisherprice Think & Learn Code-a-pillar. Little hands can connect and reconnect the 9 segments to teach themselves and the toy to move around, wiggle, and dance.
Hit the skies with a new drone
Drones have been popular for quite awhile, but features on the new drones will impress even the most die-hard drone enthusiasts. Take a look at the Parrot Disco fixed wing drone with FPV for example: it gives you full HD 1080p streaming video sent straight to your smartphone and you can even put your phone in the included Parrot Cockpitglasses so you feel like you’re hitting the skies and along for the ride.
Parrot Disco is easy to pilot, hits speeds up to 80 km/hr, and has great extended range so you can go further than you’ve been to before. Drones aren’t just for people who like to fly either. More and more people are using them to document family adventures and get overviews of their home. I used one to get an aerial view of my acreage and it was pretty cool to see everything from high up.
Ring Video Doorbell Pro
Want to easily add a whole new level of security to your home? The Ring Video Doorbell Pro is brand new and for anyone who is thinking about upping their home protection with a security camera. It gives you a wide-angle 160 degree view of your front door area, porch, and front yard, has a live stream of video viewable through your smartphone, and you can subscribe to a cloud service to store and share your videos.
Best of all? Ring Video Doorbell Pro has motion detection, so someone doesn’t have to actually ring your doorbell in order for you to see that they are there. With two-way talk you can also talk to the person at your door, and you can set motion alert areas through the app to pinpoint areas where people could be coming and going.
Take a look at Erin’s review of the Ring Video Doorbell Pro.
Virtual Reality
Tis the season to start thinking about which virtual reality headset you’ll be buying for the holidays this year, and the Oculus Rift could very well be at the top of your list. It has 2160 x 1200 resolution, a 110-degree field of view, 90Hz refresh rate, and integrated VR audio to surround you with sound. With a ton of great games, movies, and other VR experiences, you’ll love stepping into the virtual world.
Oculus Rift is going to be huge this fall so take a look at it now while it’s available.
KitchenAid Nespresso
I love this amazing espresso maker from KitchenAid. I’ve always been a big fan of their hot red appliances and this espresso maker uses Nespresso’s exclusive technology to brew you a cup of amazing coffee. It has a 19 bar pressure pump system and thermoblock heating element.
There’s a lot to be excited about this September. What’s your favourite new item coming to Best Buy this month?
