Samsung Bespoke appliances

Samsung’s annual Appliance Training Tour came to Vancouver. I had the opportunity to attend and learn all about the new Samsung appliances available at Best Buy. After attending this event, one thing became perfectly clear. AI is coming into our kitchen and laundry rooms. Here’s some of the new Samsung Bespoke appliances to look out for.

Samsung Bespoke AI laundry combo all-in-one washer & heat pump dryer

Given the choice, I think many of us would prefer a single appliance to wash and dry our clothes. Samsung is finally introducing an All-in-One Washer and Dryer to North America. It’s a Wi-Fi connected; AI powered front-loading washer dryer combo with a large 6.1 cu. ft. capacity. Two things immediately stood out for me. First, as a washer/dryer combo, it only requires 120V. That means you can plug it into any home wall outlet. For context, most dryers require 240V of power. Second, it uses heat pump technology to dry the clothes. It doesn’t require a dryer vent. That means, you only need a water source to wash and dry your clothes. This is extremely convenient for apartments and homes. It gives people more flexibility to install it under counters or even in closets.

I still haven’t figured out how heat pump drying works. From what I’m told, it utilizes the same technology as refrigerators but in reverse. This bespoke model can wash and dry laundry in around 100 minutes. It also features auto dispense. It will automatically release detergent, bleach, and fabric softener. This happens at the bottom of the machine. Users can kick open the door and pre-load their detergent for multiple loads. Gone are the days of having to load detergent for each load.

AI Opti Wash & Dry

AI is used to optimize both the washing and drying cycles. Samsung calls this AI Opti Wash & Dry. The AI automatically detects the types of items you are washing and picks the right settings for you. It measures the type, weight, and soil level of clothing and selects the wash cycle. For example, if your kids’ clothes are muddy from playing outside, it will add additional detergent and extend the washing time. AI Optimal Dry uses a moisture sensor to detect the dampness of your items. It then selects the appropriate dry cycle and temperature. With AI, the drying process is optimized for each specific load.

Samsung Bespoke 4-door Flex refrigerator with AI family hub

Samsung’s new Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator reimagines what a fridge can do inside a home. It features a large 32” Screen with AI Family Hub. Powered by the Tizen operating system, users can control their smart home, view recipes, screen mirror content from their smartphone, or watch live TV. Samsung is also adding Google Photos to Family Hub. Users can share and display pictures on their fridge. Inside, an internal camera can identify up to 33 different foods. Users can even peek into their fridge from their smartphone. This is a great feature to use when you’re at the grocery store. Do you need eggs and milk? Remotely look inside your fridge to find out. In addition, AI will recommend recipes based on the items you have inside your fridge.

Traditionally, fridges came either white, black, or stainless steel. This new Bespoke fridge can be designed to fit your personal style. With changeable door panels, users can choose from 11 colours and two finishes They also have an Auto Open Door. When you lightly touch the door, it automatically opens. For example, if your hands are full of groceries, open the doors with a light touch from your elbow. A UV deodorizer filter is located on the top of the fridge. It uses ultraviolet light to remove odours.

Samsung 6.3 cu. ft. Induction slide-in range with AI hub

The new Induction slide-in range with AI hub has no knobs or dials. Instead, it has a 7” LCD touchscreen display that act as a control centre for your oven and your smart home. Users can control smart appliances, access apps, and even answer your phone. Believe it or not, you can take calls with this oven. It also features voice control. Ask Bixby to set a certain temperature hands-free or get weather updates as you cook.

Like Samsung’s refrigerator, a smart oven camera is built inside. This serves two benefits. First, users can view inside to check on cooking without opening the door. This preserves the internal cooking temperature while still letting users peak inside. Second, it lets you create timelapse video clips of your cooking. This content can then be shared on social media. The cooking content creators are going to love this feature.

Ambient Edge lighting

Another interesting design element is Ambient Edge lighting. This enhances the ambience of your kitchen with a gentle light under the cooktop. The movement of the light also has a purpose. It can show if the range is on/off, provide status updates, and signals when food is ready.

Anti-scratch glass

The big issue I’ve had with glass cooktops is they eventually scratch from repeated use. I’ve tried my best to keep my glass cooktop scratch free to no avail. Samsung’s Induction Slide-In Range with AI features Anti-Scratch Glass. It can withstand 1.5 times more pressure without scratching. They slid a pot weighing 3 kg across the cooktop 100 times and sandpaper with 1000 grit thousands of times. It was less likely to get marked and its matte finish maintained with a premium look and feel. Finally, we may have a glass cooktop that doesn’t scratch.

Appliances are getting smart

It’s amazing to see technology like AI being incorporated into appliances. Samsung’s all in one washer and dryer can determine how much detergent you need based on how dirty your clothes are. Samsung’s Bespoke fridge detects the food you put inside of it and recommends recipes based on what you have. The new Induction Slide-In Range with AI Hub lets you control your entire smart home from its LCD display. If you love technology and cooking, what a time to be alive!

That said, not everyone wants or needs high tech appliances. Explore Bespoke appliances or read this Appliances buying guide to help you determine which appliances are right for you.
