Capcom’s back-to-back Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase and Spotlight broadcasts featured plenty of exciting video game announcements. The developer unveiled new details for Monster Hunter Wilds, including info on new foes, locales and a second open beta later this month. There were also surprise announcements like the launch of MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics on Xbox One. Along with all of this, we also got the release date for Capcom Fighting Collection 2 and news that a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is set for later this year. Let’s dive into the breakdown of the major reveals from both showcases.

Monster Hunter Wilds: New locale, monsters, and open beta detailed

First up, we got a new look at Monster Hunter Wilds, which is gearing up for its big release on February 28th, 2025. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto unveiled a frigid new area called the Iceshard Cliffs, home to the brand-new monster, Hirabami. This Leviathan floats and attacks from above with its razor-sharp tail. Capcom also revealed fan favorite monsters Nerscylla and Gore Magala are making a comeback.

Second open beta coming for Monster Hunter Wilds

Details were also revealed around the second Monster Hunter Wilds beta test, including new foes, rewards and timing. Capcom also shared details about the monsters you’ll face off against including Arkveld, the game’s flagship monster known as the “White Wraith.” The beta also brings back the tricky Gypceros, introduces a Training Area at the Base Camp, and adds features like Private Lobbies and an Online Single Player mode. Character creation data from the beta will carry over to the full game, so you can start building your hunter before the full retail launch. Mark your calendars: the beta runs from February 6 at 7:00 PM PST to February 9 at 6:59 PM PST. A second round starts on February 13th at 7:00 PM PST to February 16 at 6:59 PM PST. Monster Hunter Wilds enhanced on PS5 Pro

The showcase also highlighted special features in Monster Hunter Wilds, including Photo Mode, customization options, and PlayStation 5 Pro support. For players on the PS5 Pro, the game will use the console’s advanced hardware to deliver a more immersive visual experience. Wilds will support state-of-the-art Pro technologies at launch, including ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Ray Tracing will provide more realistic lighting and reflections, greatly enhancing the visuals. The PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which is an AI-driven upscaling technology, will boost frame rates and image quality, ensuring smoother and more detailed visuals.

Onimusha franchise updates

As an Onimusha fan, I was excited to see more details on the franchise’s direction and a surprise game announcement. Producer Akihito Kadowaki and director Satoru Nihei shared more details about Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It is set in feudal Japan, and features iconic Kyoto landmarks like Kiyomizu-Dera Temple. You’ll step into the shoes of a new protagonist wielding the Oni Gauntlet, battling demonic Genma in soul-absorbing combat. Way of the Sword is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2026. Keep it locked on Best Buy Blog for pre-order details.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remaster

A remaster of the classic Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is also in the works, bringing enhanced visuals and gameplay. The original, released in 2002, was lauded for its fast-paced action and branching storyline. Now an upgraded version is making its way to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later this year. It’s time to relive those epic samurai battles!

In a surprise move, Capcom announced that the MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is now available on Xbox One. The critically acclaimed collection is also available now on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. Capcom Fighting Collection 2 Arrives this Spring

Looking ahead, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is set to launch on May 16, 2025. This bundle includes gems like Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 and Power Stone 2. All titles will be enhanced with online play, feature rollback netcode and various quality-of-life improvements across the eight classic titles in the collection.
