DJI Mini 2

Just announced today by drone manufacturer DJI is the new DJI Mini 2 Drone. This drone will be available at Best Buy soon, both individually and in a combo form with other (as yet unknown) equipment/accessories. If you think you might be interested in getting the DJI Mini 2 yourself, stay tuned to Best Buy’s Drones page and read below for the full details of this exciting new product.

The Mini 2—What can it do?

The all new DJI Mini 2 Drone is an ultralight foldable drone weighing less than 250 grams. There are literally bags of chips that are heavier than that! DJI actually compares it to the weight of an apple, so you know it’s easy to take with you wherever you go, making it a great travel companion for those that like to see the world.

Of course, as with most DJI drones, it’s also a flying camera. It shoots crystal clear footage in stunning 4K video quality and can transmit the footage over a 10 kilometre range. And, because it has a maximum flight time of 31 minutes per complete charge of its battery, you won’t have any trouble covering that distance should you choose to do so, making this a great recording device to take with you on your most remote adventures—places you can only see and shoot with the help of a flying camera.

Other features of the DJI Mini 2 include something called Level 5 Wind Resistance. This is a new spec for me, but what it means is that the Mini 2 can withstand winds of between 29-38 Km/h while still capturing totally stable footage, which it can do from an altitude of up to 4000 metres. This makes the Mini 2 great for shooting beach and coastal scenes where there’s often a high level of wind that would blow a lot of other drones around chaotically.

Complete with a 3 axis motorized gimbal for shot stability and a 12MP camera that shoots its glorious 4K footage at 30fps, the Mini 2 delivers professional quality footage that’s worthy of an Academy Award. Oh, and did I mention that it also has 4X zoom?

Among its other features and capabilities are a 180 degree wide-angle lens, the ability to shoot sphere panoramas, compatibility with the DJI Fly App (which has its own useful features, such as built-in photo optimization), and simplified flight features like Automatic Takeoff and Return to Home. These features alone are sure to make flying the Mini 2 a breeze. And, naturally, you can always just hover in place to get the perfect shot. You can even pre-plan a specific flight itinerary within the app, making it perfect for planning out a movie style scene or film sequence.

As for accessories, all I know at the moment is that the drone will come both individually and in some combo format. I don’t know what all will come with the individual drone, but I expect there will be some accessories included. The possibilities (and likelihood) there include DJI’s amazing new display charging case (the second picture in this blog). This clever domed case not only charges and stores the Mini 2 Drone, but it also allows you to display it beautifully. As usual in an announcement article like this, I’m barely scratching the surface of what all this drone can do and what it might come with.

If you’re ready to take your photography/videography game to the next level with a high quality flying camera, I can’t speak from experience in this case, but the DJI Mini 2 certainly sounds like a winner to me. If you agree and are interested in picking one up, stay tuned to Best Buy Canada and visit their Drones page frequently so you can secure yours as soon as it becomes available. Happy flying, and shooting!
