Journey to the Forbidden Lands

Your adventure in Monster Hunter Wilds begins with an expedition to the uncharted Forbidden Lands. This region came to the Guild’s attention after rescuing Nata, a boy who escaped a monster attack on his village. The Guild is now investigating the White Wraith, the creature behind the attack, while searching for Nata’s people, the Keepers.

Guiding your journey is Alma, who will manage your missions and provide critical insights. Each expedition unit, including yours, consists of a Hunter, Handler, Smithy, and Palico, with everyone playing a vital role in the Guild’s mission. Together, you’ll establish a foothold in the Windward Plains, the first stop on your path through the Forbidden Lands.

The Windward Plains features a unique climate that shifts between the Fallow and the Plenty. During the Fallow, resources are scarce, and predators compete for survival. The Plenty, on the other hand, sees an increase in resources, which significantly changes the creatures’ behaviour. These cycles create a constantly evolving ecosystem.

You’ll face creatures like the pack-hunting Doshaguma, the burrowing Balahara with quicksand traps, and the mineral-armored Chatacabra. At the top of the food chain is Rey Dau, a monster that uses lightning attacks during the Sandtide, a period of intense storms. To be successful, you’ll need to adapt your strategies to each creature’s behaviours and the plains’ challenges.

Tools, companions, and multiplayer for the hunt

Surviving the Forbidden Lands in Monster Hunter Wilds requires a mix of skill, strategy, and teamwork. You’ll have access to 14 weapon types, catering to various playstyles, from close-quarters combat to ranged assaults. You’ll also need to make smart use of items like shock traps, barrel bombs, and environmental features. Portable Pop-Up Camps serve as vital fast-travel points, resupply stations, and gear change hubs, but careful placement is essential to keep them safe from roaming monsters.

Your Palico companion provides critical support in the field, from laying traps to healing injuries and assisting during battles. Seikret mounts add even more versatility, allowing for fast traversal, mounted attacks, and quick escapes when situations turn dangerous. Together, your tools and companions ensure you’re prepared for any challenge the Forbidden Lands throw at you.

The game supports both single and multiplayer modes, giving you the option to team up with up to three others online or rely on NPC support hunters when playing offline. If you need help, you can fire an SOS flare to call for reinforcements. Multiplayer allows hunters to collaborate online, providing support during challenging hunts.

Beyond the hunts, the Forbidden Lands include a unique culture. Interacting with its inhabitants may provide useful insights for the Guild’s mission. Exploring the environment, working with companions, and facing monsters all contribute to understanding this complex region.
