Gamescom 2025 took place from August 19 to 23. This video game event is held in Germany and brings together thousands of gaming enthusiasts and industry members. During the opening night event, “Opening Night Live”, more than 40 announcements were made. Hosted by Geoff Keighley live from Cologne, we got the latest news on upcoming titles such as Lords of the Fallen II, Onumisha: Way of the Sword, Ninja Gaiden 4, and World of WarCraft: Midnight. We also finally got confirmation of the release dates for Hollow Knight: Silksong and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which are September 4 and November 17, 2025, respectively.
Here are the announcements that caught our attention.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
The announcement of a new LEGO game always catches my attention. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight appeals to my taste for adventure, investigation, and exploration games with the humor characteristic of LEGO games. The title is ambitious. Players will follow Bruce Wayne’s epic journey, from his beginnings to his rise to fame, through 86 years of Batman history. The storyline will draw on the comic books, films, TV series, and other video games that have made this hero legendary.
According to what the developers revealed at Gamescom, this project is being treated with all the respect that the franchise and its fans deserve. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is scheduled for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Swords of Legends
These days, role-playing and action games with relentless combat are all the rage. Revealed at the very end of the Gamescom opening preshow, Swords of Legends looks promising. Developed by Aurogon Shanghai, the title combines action, fantastical powers, and powerful mythical creatures. Very little is known about the story at this point, but it has certainly piqued our curiosity! Swords of Legends does not yet have a release date, but I would advise you to stay tuned for updates. The game is sure to generate a lot of buzz.
Seven Deadly Sins: Origin
Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is an open-world role-playing game that will immerse players in the heart of Britannia. Take on the role of Prince Tristan of the Kingdom of Liones and embark on a journey to restore order to Britannia, which has been thrown into chaos after a mysterious space-time collision. Although inspired by the anime, the storyline will be original. The game will be a captivating adventure in which heroes can express themselves in their own style. The combat dynamics adapt to the characters’ equipment and how they use it. Consisting of four companions, the group will explore vast lands filled with secrets to discover.
In addition to battles, Seven Deadly Sins: Origin offers moments of respite. Players will take the time to gather materials, go fishing, and even cook delicious meals and craft equipment. They will even be able to bring along familiars to make adventures more fun. Those interested can sign up to participate in the closed beta on the game’s official website.
Seven Deadly Sins: Origin will be released on PlayStation 5, mobile, and PC.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui
At the end of the evening, it was the announcement of Black Myth: Zhong Kui that excited fans of the recent hit Black Myth: Wukong. We now know that the game will be part of a saga. Inspired by Chinese folklore, Game Science presents us this time with a protagonist named Zhong Kui, a ghost-hunting god who navigates between Earth and Hell.
Still in its early stages, few details are known about this role-playing and action game. Following the positive reception of Black Myth: Wukong, the studio wants to go further with their second project. They are looking to create more memorable gaming experiences and bring new ideas to both their universe and the proposed narrative.
By their own admission, the developers themselves do not yet know exactly where this installment will take them, and no release date has been set. However, the brief footage shown at the opening night of Gamescom 2025 is tantalizing. We can’t wait to find out more!
Gamescom 2025 had something for everyone
Gamescom week was packed with video game news. It’s one of those events that brings the industry and the public together in one place for a week full of surprises. Visitors who attended in person were able to try out demo games, while we’ll be feasting on news for weeks and months to come.
