Gamescom 2024 is held between 21 to 25 August. Entirely focused on video games, this event is held in Germany and brings together thousands of fans and industry players. During the Opening Night Live event, we witnessed over fifty announcements. Hosted by Geoff Keighley live from Cologne, the event offered fresh updates on upcoming titles such as DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO, Batman: Arkham Shadow, Dune Awakening, Marvel Rivals and Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. Here are some of the noteworthy announcements.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in gameplay images
The main event opened with the in-game presentation of the striking Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign. We saw six and a half minutes of gameplay, with several different approaches to the missions that will be offered to players. The fluidity of movement and the detail given to the characters are striking. This is partly explained by the photogrammetry process, as authentic equipment was acquired, scanned and incorporated on each of the operators.
As a fan of scripted campaigns in the Call of Duty franchise, I’m in for a treat with this one, which takes place in the White House in the early 90s. According to the official summary, the fictional story is based on the history of the period, as you dive into a strange, clandestine conspiracy where a dark force has infiltrated the American government.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
As far as preorders are concerned, early access to the open beta will be available between August 30 and September 4, and general access from September 6 to 9.
Monster Hunter Wilds presents its Scarlet Forest
Scheduled for release in 2025, Capcom seized the opportunity during Gamescom to present a new trailer for the game. In this trailer, players discover the Scarlet Forest, named after the tinted water found on the forest floor. This is the home of the Temnoceran Lala Barina. Beautiful and ferocious, this spider-like monster armed with a blooming rose defence mechanism can unfold its thorax at will. Another monster we encountered is Rey Dau, as fabulous as it is intimidating.
Players will be delighted to know that by summoning other hunters to help them, virtual companions can fill up the empty spaces. The hunters’ actions can hinder the monsters’ movements. This will add to the strategy for defeating them and reaping the rewards. Monster Hunter creatures are always tough, and this game is no exception.
The size of the game promises to be great. Hunters will have a vast map to explore, filled with monsters and places to discover. On expeditions, they’ll be able to have a barbecue to refuel if their base camp is too far away.
Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Unknown9: Awakening
Developed by Montreal studio Reflector Entertainment, Unknown9: Awakening features Haroona, played by Anya Chalotra (The Witcher). The young woman has a unique connection with the Fold, a mysterious parallel dimension superimposed on our own. Quaestor will become the target of the Ascendants. This secret society is called the Leap Year Society.
Seeking to exploit the Fold to alter the course of human history, Haroona will have to stop them. Her powers will enable her, for example, to step into her enemies to control them, dodge bullets and hurl Umbric energy onto her opponents. From what we’ve seen, Unknown9: Awakening will take us to some of the world’s most mysterious countries, from Mauritania to the Indian jungles and the gothic landscapes of Portugal.
The mysteries surrounding Unknown9 go beyond the video game itself. Although a new license is being explored, fans can immerse themselves in the universe created around the game. The first season of the nine-episode podcast Unknown9: Out of Sight is available, as well as a series of thematic novels and comics.
Announced at Summer Game Fest, we now know the release date. Unknown 9: Awakening is scheduled for October 18 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
The release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is just around the corner. At Gamescom, MachineGames showed us images of our hero concentrating on solving puzzles. Of course, traps are always present. Exploration is rewarded by the acquisition of priceless treasures. Indiana Jones’ accessories include his camera, lighter, diary and, of course, his trademark whip. The video is narrated by actor Troy Baker, who lends his voice to the explorer. Presenting several facets of the game, it gives a good idea of what awaits us in a few months’ time. I hope this game will help Indy stand out from the crowd. In any case, I can’t wait!
The title will allow the player to embody the famous archaeologist as he embarks on an thrilling quest. He’ll have to battle sinister forces to uncover the truth behind one of history’s greatest mysteries. This new adventure will take him from the hallowed halls of the Vatican to the sunken temples of Sukhothai, from the pyramids of Egypt to the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be available on December 9 for Xbox Series X|S in Premium, Standard and PC editions.
