The past year was great for video game lovers. Let me begin with where we left off last June. If you remember E3 was cancelled and Best Buy introduced “Play at Best Buy” to keep the momentum going with great gaming announcements and deals. Our usual June contest was late (we ran it in July last year) but it still gave everyone a chance to win a new console and some great games. The rest of the year brought some fantastic new consoles and games.
Play at Best Buy is back and on the blog we’ll be posting articles about events during E3 2021! Included will be great announcements, great gaming deals, and … this contest. Read on to learn about the amazing prizes we are giving away, then enter for a chance to win!
A year of great new gaming tech
Many of us were hunkered down in our homes playing games with new technology this past year. With the introduction of new consoles from PlayStation and Xbox and new VR tech from Oculus, the year certainly delivered! I remember the excitement in our gaming community last September when these announcements were made. That was a crazy month: PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Oculus Quest 2 were all announced within a couple weeks of each other.
Of course, they weren’t available for purchase until later that fall, and we were quick to get reviews posted for each new device so you could learn more about them. Here are links to those reviews.
Nintendo did not give us a new console this year, though they did release many new games including the New Pokémon Snap! for the Nintendo Switch. We have reviewed almost all of the games and will be anxiously awaiting new games or console announcements from Nintendo over the following month (who knows what surprises they will bring!).
Taking gaming to another level with amazing new home theatre and router technology
Adding to this is the outstanding new televisions that came out this year to turn your gaming into a more immersive and entertaining experience. The Cognitive Processor XR in the newest Sony Bravia XR televisions, for example, enhances your experience by optimizing the image based on how human perception works. This is the first television with Cognitive intelligence!
Bringing it all together in our homes are the newest routers boasting Wi-Fi 6 technology to optimize your streaming so you get the most from your internet network no matter if you’re watching Netflix or streaming Stadia in one room, Xbox live in another etc. For example, the new NETGEAR XR1000 Pro gaming router has a triple core 1.5Ghz processor and allows over 5Gbps data transfers—imagine downloading a huge game in seconds instead of hours!
Serious prizes for serious gamers
We know that many very serious gamers are not playing with the best equipment available. First of all, the new consoles have been release in limited quantities, so you might not yet have been able to get one for yourself. Secondly, the new Sony TVs and NETGEAR routers only just became available this spring. However, with this contest, everyone will have an equal chance to win the best gaming technology available in the world. Here are the prizes:
- Oculus Quest2 64GB VR Headset, Elite Strap, Carrying Case, Link Cable
- PlayStation 5 Console, DualSense Controller, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Returnal, MLB The Show 21, Demon’s Souls, Destruction AllStars
- Xbox Series S, Game Pass Ultimate (12 month subscription)
- Nintendo Switch Console, New Pokémon Snap, Mario Golf: Super Rush, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- Sony Home Theatre including Sony 75″ XR75x90J TV and Sony HT-Z9F Atmos sound bar with sub woofer and Sony SA-Z9R Bookshelf speakers
- NETGEAR XR1000 router
Additionally, I’ll be adding to each prize a selection of gaming accessories from KontrolFreek including Cat-8 Ethernet gaming cables, Thumbsticks, and more.
What new tech and games will be offered over the next year
The month of June is known for gaming announcements and usually a few surprises. Follow our coverage, and contribute your comments to the discussions on our articles. First, I’d suggest you enter our contests, which require a blog comment to have a chance to win. Second, I’d suggest you contribute to the conversation on other gaming articles. I have a bunch of gaming related samples at my desk and I’ll be surprising several people who leave clever, interesting, and thoughtful comments placed on E3 2021 articles with great gaming gear like headsets, gaming mice, and more.
How to enter our Play at Best Buy contest
Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in two different ways:

It’s like “If you give a mouse a cookie” in trying to name what you would be looking forward to. I would love to try VR but I have a family so, though Oculus interests me, I would love to have the PS (and then VR set). But, in getting the PS, I’d need the Home Theatre for us to thoroughly enjoy it, and probably the new router to keep a fast, stable connection to net. Then I would need to get some awesome game titles to round out the new entertainment with something like Starfield, but that will be a while yet so I am guess I would get into Godfall Then, when Elden Ring makes it out, that one looks like a hit to keep things rolling until launching off into the space odyssey.
Really looking forward to Battlefield 2042
Most excited for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction for the PS5 that I bought at Best Buy
