Video games and music go hand in hand

During a game, music can tug at your heart or it can get you going in the direction that the game designer wants you to. On the other hand, music in a game can let the player know that they are losing health or just gained a power up. Finally, a game’s soundtrack can help brand it—and leave a lasting impression while creating many favourable memories.

As a direct result, video game concerts have become popular all over the world with gamers. Many concerts travel the globe to sold out crowds. Not only is it a great way to connect with other gamers in the community but it also is an incredible experience that you won’t soon forget. Let me tell you about my experience with a recent video game concert that I went to not too long ago and the impact it had on me.

Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World of Tres World Tour

To help celebrate the launch of Kingdom Hearts III earlier in the year, the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra concert series went on tour all over the world with a brand-new program—Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World of Tres. Luckily one of the stops was here in Toronto and I had the esteemed pleasure of attending.

The orchestra and choir were composed of more than 100 musicians who put on a stunning performance. The live orchestra included woodwinds, brass, piano, percussion and other instruments. The concert started with spectacular renditions of iconic music from the Kingdom Hearts franchise. To add even more impact, behind the orchestra and choir was a large screen. It showed gameplay footage in perfect harmony with the music.

However, the highlight of the concert was when the orchestra played music from Kingdom Hearts III. They went chapter by chapter through out the game. You could hear many people in the audience humming along, and were cheering and clapping at the end of every piece. Not only did several of the songs send chills down my spine but they also brought back fond memories and times when I was playing the game. It’s like the moments were frozen in time and by listening to the music I could replay them as many times as I wanted.

  1. The soundtracks to many video games are amazing; the creators have put great thought and foresight into the work. But my favourite is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I love it because its epic; there is a grandeur to the soft themes, but also orchestral greatness in the battle scenes. It evokes emotion and passion and true depth of feeling.

  2. Final Fantasy 8 has my favorite soundtrack. It was also my favorite of all the Final Fantasy Games. There were just so many great moments that were accentuated by the wonderful music.

  3. Soundtracks are not my specialty but I can say that Super Mario’s soundtrack is really fun, up beat and catchy…that may not be the professional terms but I think its fun and it’s my favourite

  4. For my kids and I Halo: Combat Evolved has the best soundtrack because the chill that it gives us every time we play.

  5. Super Mario as it is the ultimate jolly and soundtrack and backdrop to my youth . Like part of my family it’s the best . Like the one sibling you actually really like

  6. I really like Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack. So nostalgic, having all 4 CDs and having to change them throughout the game on my PS1!

  7. I have to go with the popular opinion and say Halo, specifically Halo 3! so great because of the amount of talent behind its composition!

  8. I’m just entering for a gift for my son for his fort nite and cod…I’m more of a final fantasy assassins creed fan but I dont get to play much anymore

  9. Red Dead Redemption 2 because it has original music that I’d actually listen to, outside of the game.

  10. Legend of Zelda OoT is up there. It’s just so iconic and brings you back to the days you first played it on N64.

  11. There are too many games with great soundtracks.

Each console has had the fair share.

I’d say Super Mario Bros or Mortal Kombat. They both have great nostalgia and are easily recognizable anywhere

  12. Legend of Zelda reminds me of when my kids would play the game…they are men now! LOL a little mom nostalgia.

  13. i think the best soundtrack in a game belongs to The Witcher Wild Hunt because it is very immersive for the setting.
