The image above is a first visual glimpse of The Battle of Jakku, coming to Star Wars™ Battlefront™ on December 1st, 2015, for all who pre-order, and a week later for all other game holders. The Battle of Jakku was the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet.

Coming this Holiday
Available on November 17, 2015, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Star Wars Battlefront will immerse you in the most authentic and realistic Star Wars video game experience ever as you battle it out online in epic 40-player matches. You’ll be able to fight for the Rebellion or Empire as you visit iconic areas from the original Star Wars trilogy, such as the frozen world of Hoth, Luke’s homeworld Tatooine, and the lush, forested moon of Endor. You’ll also travel to Sullust, a previously unexplored planet covered in rocky terrain and veined by lava channels; home to fleshy-faced Sullustan creatures, the most famous of which is Nien Nunb who served as Lando Calrissian’s Millennium Falcon co-pilot in Return of the Jedi.
Not only can you step into the role of Rebel fighter, or Imperial Stormtrooper, fan-favourite antagonists Boba Fett and Darth Vader are also playable. During today’s Star Wars Battlefront developer panel at Star Wars Celebration, the team from DICE said that “iconic heroes” will also be in the game, with the first two revealed to be the beloved droids C-3PO and R2-D2. You’ll also be able to step into the cockpit of classic Star Wars starfighters like X-wings and TIE fighters for some intense, aerial dogfights, as well as command the legendary Millennium Falcon. A diverse set of ground-based vehicles can also be piloted, including blistering fast speeder bikes, hulking AT-ATs, and more.
Debut Full-Length Trailer
Today, in front of a live audience of thousands of excited Star Wars fans, DICE, Electronic Arts, and Lucasfilm unveiled the first full-length gameplay trailer for the much-anticipated next entry in the Star Wars Battlefront series. The trailer was presented during Star Wars Celebration, the official Star Wars fan festival—expected to attract 150,000 fans—taking place this weekend in Anaheim, California.
Many of the Star Wars locations, vehicles, and characters mentioned above can be seen in Star Wars Battlefront‘s debut trailer shown today, take a look:
Check out those amazing graphics and realistic sounds! As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I can’t wait to play this game, it looks incredible!
All the action you see there was produced using EA’s proprietary Frostbite Engine, the same game engine that powers blockbuster games like Battlefield Hardline and Dragon Age: Inquisition. The attention to detail is astounding, from the dense, forested battleground on Endor, to the blaster gun sound effects that are identical to what you hear in the Star Wars movies. In the trailer you get a glimpse of the galatic scale of combat in Star Wars Battlefront, with battles taking place on multiple planets and featuring a range of foot soldiers, ground vehicles, and starfighters. How impressive was it to see the Rebel’s Y-wings swoop in and destroy the four-legged AT-AT walker? If that’s only a couple minutes of the action, imagine how thrilling the final game is going to be!
Bestbuy.ca Pre-order bonuses
As mentioned, Best Buy has an exclusive bonus for those who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront on Bestbuy.ca (available with online pre-orders only). You’ll get a Boba Fett bobblehead that sticks and rests on your monitor—can you imagine how proud you’ll feel with this exclusive bobblehead on your computer monitor at work or home? I love how Boba Fett has one knee up and looks totally relaxed (as if a notorious bounty hunter like him could ever really take a rest!)
That’s not all though, if you preorder Star Wars Battlefront on Bestbuy.ca you’ll also gain access to the “Battle of Jakku” downloadable content (DLC) on December 1, 2015—one full week before the DLC is released for other players. In the Battle of Jakku, you’ll experience a pivotal battle preceding the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Remember the large Star Destroyer ship shown to have crashed into the sandy surface of Jakku in yesterday’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer? That, according to DICE developers, happened during the Battle of Jakku. Perhaps we’ll get some insight into how it happened!
