Film synopsis

We only use 10% of our brain, but when Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) gets captured and tortured, she ends up evolving into a human that uses 100% of their brain. Imagine what she can do at full capacity.

My thoughts on the film

Most of us who have seen the trailer might have anticipated an action-packed film with Scarlett Johansson laying the smackdown, so who wouldn’t be excited to see that? Sure, the whole “we only use 10% of our brain” theory has been beaten to death and we all know that we use all parts of our brain, just not all at the same time. With that aside, does Lucy provide moviegoers a good summer flick? Not so much. We already know the concept, but it’s how confusing and insanely far stretched the entire film is. At the end of the film, there were people saying, “What the heck just happened?”

Scarlett Johansson’s performance was great, but remember all that action we were hoping for? Well, don’t get your hopes up anymore. The more she uses her brain, the less she physically does, if you know what I mean. Something interesting to note is that Angelina Jolie was originally casted as Lucy, but then dropped out. As much as I love Jolie, I don’t know if things would’ve changed if she stuck with it. I feel that Jolie has a lot of pull in what goes down, but maybe there was no saving this one.

Rating 2.5/5

While Scarlett Johansson’s performance was great, Lucy ends up being underwhelming.

Lucy is out now. Check your local theatre for showtimes.
