Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

 

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  4. The coolest tech toy available at Best Buy in 2016 is the Sphero BB-8 App-Enabled Droid with Star Wars Force Band because I would watch him perk up when I’ll give it voice commands.

  14. The coolest tech toy I got as a kid was a tamagochi. I got multiple of them and I left them with my mom for a hour while I was busy and she started freaking out because they all started going off (guess it was feeding time)
    I posted a comment for the toy i like best out of the list and forgot to inclue the actual name of the toy…ultimate stem toy- i.e Osmo genius kit

  16. I think the coolest toy for this year for at my boys would be the electric razor scooter, they would have a blast riding it at the park down the road. The coolest tech toy I probably received when I was a kid would have been the game boy.

  19. In the early 90’s I received a Game Boy as a gift over the holidays. To me that was the coolest toy ever.

  20. The BB-8 droid is something I would have loved as a child. The most technologically advanced toy I ever received was an electric train set.

  24. The best tech toy I got when I was younger was a pocket-sized game that was similar to Simon. I loved that thing and felt SO cool to have it. Unfortunately showing it off resulted in it being stolen from my book bag at school :(. Ha ha!

  28. The coolest tech toy I received as a kid was a record player which came in a beautiful light blue case. I played my Aunt’s old records on it for hours at a time. So fun

  29. I think the coolest tech toy at Best Buy for 2016 is the Code-a-Pillar which teaches 3 year olds basic coding. They can make it spin, turn right, left or go forward or make a noise. The segments connect with USB port.

  30. The Yuneec Typhoon H Hexacopter With Real Sense Drone with Camera & Controller is the coolest tech toy. One real benefit is that you can possibly find employment with the right developed skills

  33. The best tech toy I received at the age of five was a simple battery operated robot equiped with four plastic missile launchers on its head, flashing lights and moving legs. What a noise maker it was. I think the on/off switch fascinated me the most because I had the power to bring it to life.

  40. The best toy I received as a child was a desktop computer with dial up Internet… Killed half the day just waiting for it to connect… And then the phone would ring and disconnect you.

  41. My son would go crazy for the Razor Power Electric Scooter! He would have a blast!

    My favourite electronic as a child was the game cube! Paper Mario was my game of choice!

  44. The best tech toy I received as a child was a tamagotchi. So much fun and helped me get ready for taking care of my first real pet. 😛

  45. I think the coolest tech toy this year is the YUNNEEC TYPHOON 4K drone! My son loves taking videos and is asking for a drone for Christmas so that he take take videos from a different angle. I hope to be able to get him one this year.

  49. I think the coolest tech toy is the OSMO Genius Kit. I think it’s so creative and unique to be able to teach children with a mixture of tech and real life interactions.

  50. When I was a young kid, the coolest tech toy I got from Best Buy was a Playstation 2 when it first came out. It was a birthday present from my dad. 🙂
