Sphero, Anki, and Oculus make learning magical

There is a huge range of STEM and robotics toys available these days, and the best part is, they’re so much fun to use that kids will enjoy learning.

Sphero creates toys like the BOLT robotic ball to teach kids coding through a block-based visual language. (My personal favourites were Fizzgig from Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal and Pegasus from Disney’s Hercules). On of the hottest toys this year are the Fingerlings Hugs by WowWee.   29. LEGO Mindstorms (EV3) would be a great one for my grandson. He inherited his love of Lego from his dad and it’s amazing to watch him put things like the Star Wars BB-8 together despite only just having turned 8. He’d get a big thrill out of this and have lots of fun building it too – if he runs into any problems dad would also be glad to lend a helping hand. 🙂 This is also something to keep him happy and occupied long after he’s finished building it.

  33. The Anki Cozmo robot is at the top of my son’s Christmas list, it looks like such a cool item to get into learning about robotics and interacting with technology. But I think he would actually love the Overdrive racing set, since he loves playing racing games. And I love that compared to other racing sets, the cars can actually learn skills and level up.

  38. Both of my daughters love Lego Friends and the LEGO Friends Heartlake City Resort captures all the items that they love most, in fantasy and in real life. I would choose some of the lego kits,the jungle one with 88 pieces for my youngest grandson and a starwars lego set for an older grandson.The youngest loves animals and the other one is interested in the Star Wars toys.I think lego is really wonderful because it engages their creativity and is interactive and durable.Lego is kind of like a classdic toy,never going out of style and is fun for adults too.As we get older it is good to engage our brains too and something we can share with the kids!
