All over Canada, the season for outdoor fun has arrived. To celebrate the good times of Spring and Summer, today we look at several outdoor toys and other similar items that are great for having fun with in the sun. Whether you’re a kid, an adult, or somewhere in between, there’s sure to be something listed here today that appeals to your need for fun. Moreover, many (though not all) of these toys are the latest thing on the market, so you know they’re gonna be good. Let’s get started!

Outdoor Toys of Every Variety

Power Wheels

If you’re a kid, one of the coolest types of outdoor toys imaginable has got to be Power Wheels and Powered Ride On Toys. These mini motor vehicles are just like real cars and trucks (only for kids), and they’ve got the power to prove it. Let’s take a look at the Kidsquad 12V Mudslinger Motorized Ride-on Car for Kids to see just one example of what these mighty little machines can do.

The Kidsquad 12V Mudslinger is a super realistic jeep designed for kids ages 1-6 (with a 120 pound maximum weight capacity) featuring two 35 Watt motors with a 2 speed electronic gear select (a third gear is accessible via remote control), forward and reverse driving, a 4 wheel suspension system (including rear shock absorbers), real working head and tail lights, a cross lap safety belt, and parental override capabilities to ensure a safe and fun ride every time your tot gets behind the wheel.

But that’s not all! The Mudslinger also offers heavy duty traction, towing capacity, a working horn, a full onboard audio system featuring FM radio as well as with some pre-loaded music (this thing is starting to sound better than my own car!), heavy duty magnetic doors, a USB port, and much more. It even has a leather seat cover. Talk about luxury! I can’t imagine any kid not loving amazing outdoor toys like these Power Wheels vehicles, of which the Mudslinger is just a single example of what’s available at Best Buy.

To give you a better idea of some of the vehicular variety in this area, I’ve also included a photo of the Kidsquad 12V BMW Racing Motorbike Motorized Ride-on above.

Hoverboards and Skateboards

Another fun example of outdoor toys that are fun to ride around on are hoverboards and skateboards. Great for developing balance, coordination, and motor skills, these boards are both fun to play around with and great for getting you around. I’m actually in the early stages of reviewing a couple of hoverboards right now (keep an eye out here on the blog for that review coming soon), so I figured it would be good to include a hoverboard on today’s list.

Take, for example, the ProZip Hummer Off Road Hoverboard (one of the models I’m currently testing). This board—known as Canada’s best all-terrain hoverboad, is loaded with cool features that make it fun and easy to ride. Its self-leveling technology makes it easy for riders to keep their balance when riding on any surface (even a sand beach or a woodsy trail), and it also has GPS, a special smart phone app (with speedometer and odometer), and 3 different user settings (for beginning, intermediate, and advanced hoverboard riders). A number of other features are also present with this hoverboard, but let’s save something for my complete written review in 2-3 weeks time. Stay tuned!

Drones

Another fun way to spend a nice sunny day is by heading outside and flying a cool hobby grade drone. I’m talking about something like the LaTrax Alias Quadcopter—an impressive stunt flying drone that’s fast, furious, and seriously fun. Among the Alias’ key features are an auto-leveling 6-axis flight system (that makes it perfect for stunt flying), a durable frame (featuring lightweight yet rugged materials that can survive even a nasty crash), and its 2.4 GHz radio transmitter (for impressive range and uninterrupted control). The Alias also features a 650mAh LiPo battery for long flight times (roughly 12 minutes) and powerful performance. Finally, the Alias promises easily accessible replacement parts for pretty much any component of the drone, which is great for those that love tinkering with mechanical devices. I’ve actually flown the LaTrax Alias Quadcopter before myself, and I can guarantee you that this drone is truly a wild ride. Intended for users ages 14+, I’d say it’s best to have a bit of piloting experience before tackling this maniacal machine. However, if you’re up for the challenge, flying this drone is a great way to spend a lazy summer afternoon.

Fun with Water

On those really hot days, you may feel like cooling off with a good, old-fashioned, water fight. You might, for instance, get yourself a Super Soaker Bottle Blitz and let the water fly! This particular ‘pump-action’ Super Soaker features a removable water bottle with enough room inside for 460 ml of cool, refreshing water, but you can always upgrade your blaster to a 2 litre magazine instead simply by swapping out the included water bottle with a standard 2 litre pop bottle. With a range of up to 35 feet (10 mitres), your friends will have nowhere to hide when the water starts flowing. Let the drenching begin!

Outdoor Playground Sets

Another fun option in the outdoor toys realm is a classic playground or playhouse, such as the KidKraft Brookridge Swing Set, which is made from pre-cut, pre-drilled, and pre-stained premium cedar. This set, which allows up to 9 kids (weighing up to 110 pounds each) to play on it at a time, features 1 slide, 2 belt swings, 1 rock climbing wall, and a clubhouse up top with a play telescope inside, just to name a few of its fun features. If you’re looking for a moderately complex playground set for the kids in your family to enjoy this Spring and Summer, you couldn’t ask for more than this KidKraft set affords.

Of course, if you prefer outdoor toys that are somewhat less obtrusive, you could go for a new Backyard Sandbox. The one I’m showing here is spacious enough for 3-4 kids to play in at once (5 feet x 5 feet), comes with a mesh cover for when it’s not being used, and features reinforced wood panels that resist both weathering and warping. If you have small children ages 2-5, this is the perfect playground item to set up in a shady part of your backyard to let your kids build sandcastles and have fun just as though they were at the beach. Sand not included!

Of course, there are many other great outdoor toys and devices for outdoor play that I could have included on this list, but it was really difficult to narrow things down considering Best Buy’s excellent selection. Hopefully you saw something you liked!
