Best Buy has toys that create memories today for nostalgia tomorrow. Because toys are more than just playthings; they are sources of endless fun for all ages, and for adults they are bridges to the past. From the moment we grasp our first teddy bear as a child to the many times we nostalgically look back at our favourite childhood playthings, toys are integral to life. Explore some of the newest toys at Best Buy today, that will build memories to last a lifetime, then enter to win one of twelve fantastic toy bundles.

Toys create memories: the foundation of who we are

From the moment we’re born, toys become a part of our world. They are companions, teachers, and sources of comfort. As children, we assign personalities to our toys, embark on imaginary adventures with them, and even confide our deepest secrets to our plush friends.

For me, the stories I created while playing with cars and figurines established a love of storytelling and a love of writing. Remember the toy car that sparked your interest in automobiles? Or the doll that was your inseparable friend during those long summer days? These toys are not just objects; they are the building blocks of our childhood memories. They remind us of simpler times, filled with wonder, curiosity, and unbridled joy. The memories they created helped shape what we can do, what we know about the world—helped shape the adults we have become.

Toy nostalgia is a bridge to bygone days

There is one great scene in the second Tim Allan Santa Clause movie where a boring staff Christmas party is transformed into a fantastic, memorable night for all (in the film and in the theatre watching the film) thanks to a sackful of nostalgic toys like Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. There is no denying that toys can transport us back to our childhood, evoking a flood of emotions and memories. The scent of an old teddy bear, the familiar tune of a musical toy, or the worn-out pages of a childhood book can stir feelings of nostalgia. You’ll need to draw on some of those memories as you enter this contest.

The new toys that we are giving away in this contest will do for our children what toys did for us. They’ll help them learn about things, help them learn to socialize, etc. Many years from now, the toys you find at Best Buy today will evoke moments of nostalgia for our children. Here are the brands that provided toys for this year’s holiday toy contest. Learn about them, and click on the brand to see some of the best toys and games that 2023 has to offer.

  1. My grandchildren loved Leap Frog and now I have Great Grandchildren who soon will be ready to begin this new learning experience. Now as I senior I am totally amazed at the opportunities for children’s toys. None of these were available in my childhood.

  2. Barbie was my girl! I loved Barbie so much that me and my one girlfriend played with our Barbies till we we were at least 13?!?
One of my most wonderful memories is when I was little (4+) that my mom made it clear that I was not to receive anymore Barbies for my birthday from any friends or family due to the fact that I had so many already.
My one grandmother, who was so loving, so kind hearted for numerous reasons, would get me the new, most coveted Barbie every birthday! Regardless of my mothers instructions, and glares lol. I was so excited to receive her gift. She spoiled me, and loved me tremendously. I miss her.

  3. The Toy Shock Barbie stuff reminds me of the barbie ski mountain set I had as a kid. It was big ski ramp and my barbie had skis and and a ski outfit

  4. The stomp Rocket Stunt Plane reminds me of the old balsa wood gliders that I threw for hours before graduating to the rubber band wind up.

  5. Hasbro’s ‘The Game of Life’ Board Game has been a family favourite for decades. It was sometimes determined, all-or-nothing games – played during summer evenings at the cottage and at Holiday get-togethers. It was always fun seeing a new young family member learning how to play ‘The Game of Life’ under supervision and then after their confidence and experience improved, they won their first game of “Life’. We still pull Hasbro’s ‘The Game of Life’ Board Game out when we get crowds together and it still captures the interest in both old and new family members. Well done Hasbro, and thanks from my clan!

  6. Droyd electric ride-on bikes reminds me of getting my first bike as a kid, it was a big surprise GLA

  7. The Hasbro Furby reminds me
Soo much of my childhood and reminded me
Of how much I loved mine. I know my daughter whos 5 would be over the moon happy to have a Furby and she would probably sneak
Hers in her school bag like I did .

  8. The Toy Shock Barbie as it reminds me of all the years I played with Barbie as a child. I had so many clothes and accessories as well as about 8 dolls. I remember playing with barbies on long road trips with the family, it would keep me occupied for hours! I always get a warm feeling when I pass by the Barbie area in stores

  9. Leapfrog – honestly the tech reminds of Teddy Ruxpin; I was just amazed how much technology was in a kids toy

  10. The Droyd Electric Kids Big Wheel Mini Bike looks pretty sweet. Reminds me of building my own homemade ebike when I was younger. I’ve shared this contest with my group forest city freebies I post contests on under my Colin C account for the additional entry. Thank you and GL all!

  11. The new Monopoly Family Board Game brings back so many great memories of my childhood spending hours of fun playing Monopoly with all my cousins.

  12. The Toy Shock Barbie Vanity Set with Accessories reminds me of my old Barbie doll that I would enjoy as a kid, styling her hair and adding hair accessories to go with my Barbie’s many fashion clothes! So many great memories of many hours of fun.

  18. The Game of Life reminds me so much of my childhood. My friends and I could (and did) sit for hours playing that game. We always wanted to land on the “You’ve had Twins” space…which makes us laugh now as adults.

  19. The game of Risk reminds me of many evenings spent with friends playing that exact same game in my youth. Reminiscing about those evenings together is so much fun.

  20. The Gel Blaster reminds me of the nerf battles I had as a kid. I plan to have the same battles with my kids but with the Gel Blaster, when I win it!

  21. The Toy Shock Barbie Vanity with accessories, reminds me of when I was small and used to watch my mom get ready for work at her vanity. She looked so pretty putting on her lipstick and spraying what seemed liike an entire can of hairspray over her finely coiffed mane. I had pretend makeup that was plastic, I believe it came inside a pink barbie plastic purse. I used to mimic what mom was doing so I could look pretty like she did. When she left for work, I would sneek in and try on her earrings and lipstick. I would pretend I was a grown up,- and I too was getting ready for a day at the office with mom’s high heels(10sizes too big), some neon dangly 80s earrings, and a spritz too many of exclamation! I never got caught, because I always made sure to out everything back just as I found it. I often wonder if my daughters secretly do the same.

  22. I remember fun with family and friends spending hours playing Hasbro board games like Monopoly, Hungry Hippo, Twister, and Clue. These board games are classics!

  24. I played with Leapfrog as a kid – their handheld games – I’m sure it’s changed a lot but it made learning a lot of fun!

  25. Best Buy’s Toy Shock Barbie Kitchen Set with Accessories is in the classic Barbie pink, so similar to Barbie’s Kitchen Set (fridge, oven and sink) I adored and treasured as a kid. I hope this generation of girls love it as much as I did! So many hours spent in the Barbie house, of course she had to eat! The kitchen was a huge part of the house and one of my favourite Christmas gifts of all time. Life was simpler back then!

  26. Our family used to play Hasbro scattegories all the time. Always brings back great memories when I see the game.

  27. I grew up playing word games like boggle and scrabble, which is similar to scattagories. My family loves board games!

  28. Toy shock Barbie kitchen and accessories reminds me of the kitchen set I got as a kid. It was my favorite gift and was extra special because it was given to me by my late OPA.

  29. I still have my old pre school books and the LeapFrog LeapStart Preschool Storybook: Duck, Duck T-Rex! brings back my childhood. I was always fond of T-Rex stories.

  30. Great memories of playing Monopoly and I am glad to see the original Monopoly Family Board Game is still available from Hasbro.

  31. Hungry Hungry Hippos was my favourite game growing up and brings back many hours of creating loud noises playing this game and of course losing the pieces. So much fun!

  32. Scrabble the board game brings back fond memories of me playing with my Mom who taught me how to play the game and who would always win!

  33. I played Scrabble as a kid and never outgrew it – still a favourite. It would be great to have a new copy of the Game of Life as we still have our old one with pieces missing.

  34.
