Fujifilm Instax WIDE Evo features
The Fujifilm Instax WIDE Evo is a new instant camera. Available only in black, this camera is styled like an old slide film camera—think 1930s, not 1970s. It’s a thoughtful, serious approach to instant photography. A digital-analog hybrid, it captures and saves to digital files but prints onto instant, analog film.
The WIDE Evo is a camera that’s made for artistic customization. It offers three options for artistry: lens effects, film effects, and film borders. With the WIDE, Fujifilm introduces another dimension of customization using a “degree effect” dial. Photographers can now adjust their lens and film effects by four quantities (0, 1, 2, 3). And, as you’d expect from its name, the WIDE features a wide-angle lens with a larger image sensor than the Instax mini Evo. Not only do users have a wider range of styles and effects to customize their photos with, but they have a wider lens with which to capture the world with.

Fujifilm WIDE Evo specs
The WIDE Evo is a hybrid product. It spans the bridge between instant photography and digital photography, as well as between normal lenses and wide angle lenses.
The WIDE Evo shoots on a 1/3 inch CMOS image sensor with primary colour filter. It captures images in 2560 by 1920 pixels (normal) or 4608 by 3456 (wide angle). It shoots at a focus distance of f=28 in normal mode—a 35mm equivalent—or f=16mm in wide mode. For its digital functions, this camera uses Bluetooth 5.1 for file transfer, remote printing, and other app-integrated functions. It has a 3.5 inch TFT colour screen on its back side.
Without an SD card added in (sold separately), the WIDE Evo stores approximately 45 images. It captures 5 megapixel WIDE shots at roughly 1.1MB per image and 5 megapixel normal images at roughly 1.1MB per image.
With a micro SD card inserted, the WIDE Evo stores approximately 280 WIDE images or 850 normal images per gigabyte. Wide angle shots are captured on a 16 megapixel sensor (approximately 3.5MB each) and normal shots are stored at that same 5 megapixel size (1.1MB each). When capturing wide versus normal shots, the Fujifilm WIDE instant camera uses the same crop-down mechanism that you would see in a full-frame versus cropped image sensor: The wide angle shot takes up the entirety of the digital sensor, while the normal shot takes up the centre portion thereof.
The Instax Wide Evo app
The Evo line is also a great option for users who don’t always want to print their instant photos right away. It gives you the option to print instantly when you’ve captured something amazing, or to wait and save the image to your phone if it needs a little more customization later. Plus, thanks to Fujifilm’s new Instax Wide Evo app integration with the Evo camera line, you can easily keep copies of all of your favourite shots—even the ones you’ve already printed.
The Instax Wide Evo App also makes it easy to re-style your images after their capture, or to share your print’s editing details with your friends. You can even transfer the effects from an old shot that you loved onto a new one. Plus, you can use the app to remotely trigger your Evo’s shutter release to capture photos from a distance.
How does the WIDE Evo compare to other instant cameras?
Fujifilm’s Instax line is robust, but there’s no duplicate for the WIDE Evo in it. The brand offers three camera bodies that are similar: The Fujifilm Instax Wide 400, the Fujifilm Instax mini Evo, and the Fujifilm Instax Mini 99.
The WIDE Evo is a blend of the three—with a few extra advancements added on top.
- Compared to the Instax Wide 400: The WIDE Evo adds on film effects, lens effects, and borders. It uses the same wide film, but the Wide 400 is fully instant while the WIDE Evo is a digital/instant hybrid camera.
- Compared to the Instax mini Evo: The WIDE Evo features the same 10 lens effects and 10 film effects as the mini Evo. Both cameras are hybrid digital/instant cameras, but the mini creates credit card sized prints. The WIDE Evo adds in a wide format film and focal range, plus an improved design, more mechanical toggles, a larger digital display, and degree effect control.
- Compared to the Instax Mini 99: These cameras are quite similar in use and design. The Mini 99 features six colour effects and five shooting modes, plus a manual vignette switch; the WIDE Evo features 10 lens effects and 10 film effects, plus introduces degree effect control. The Mini 99 is fully instant and mini (producing credit card-sized prints) while the WIDE Evo is a wide-format hybrid camera with a digital display.
