Insignia electric stand desk

Sitting at your desk all day can take a toll on your body. Not only does it make you feel fatigued when you’re hunched over a desk for hours at a time, but it gradually starts to have an effect on your posture, neck, and back muscles. That’s why an adjustable desk is such a great option for people who work at home, and after setting up and testing out the Insignia Adjustable Standing desk with Electronic Controls (available soon), I’m totally on board with having one of these desks in my home office.

Here’s a look at the Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk, how it works, and how you can use it at home.

The Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk is available in two colours; black and wood finish. It’s made from particleboard and it has a melamine surface. The base of the desk is steel.

  • Can be used while standing or sitting and has a maximum height of 48.4 inches and a sitting height of 28.7 inches
  • Electric switch lets you raise or lower the desk as needed
  • Desktop is wide enough to give you ample room to spread out
  • Cable ties let you manage your cords and keep your desk organized
  • Anti-collision technology prevents the desk from hitting an object when you’re raising or lowering it

Setting up Insignia electric standing desk

insignia_desk_in_box

The Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk needs to be assembled, and everything required to put it together is in the box. You’ll put the desk on the desk legs and mount the electric switch. It sits at the front of the desk, and I really like that positioning. I’ve seen other stand desks with the controls on top of the desk itself, making it easy to bump into and move the desk without wanting to.

The electric switch plugs into a standard outlet, and it has a long cord so you don’t have to be pinned against the wall to plug it in. You’ll need to tighten the bolts on the bottom of the desk when attaching the legs, and Insignia has included a small tool you can use for that purpose. That’s nice too because you don’t have to worry about having a tool kit nearby to set it up.

It’s easy for one person to set up this standing desk, but you might need help turning it over after you’ve attached the legs and the electric switch. For an electric desk, it’s not that heavy, but it feels substantial when it’s put together.

Review of Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk

I had never used a standing desk before I tested the Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk, but once I tried it out I was hooked. There are so many reasons why having a standing desk at home or in your office is a great idea.

Standing desks are better for your body

As someone who writes for a living, I spend hours behind a desk every day. If I spend hours in front of my computer I feel like I’ve aged 20 years when I walk away. My neck and shoulders hurt, my back hurts, and I have to stretch for a while before I’m ready to resume walking with an upright posture.

When you have a standing desk you can stand up, stretch, and keep working. With an electric switch to raise and lower your desk, your computer stands up with you. Not only does standing at your desk while working improve your blood flow and decrease muscle strain, but it can improve your mental clarity when you’re starting to feel bogged down and tired.

Micro-adjustable electric controls

The electric control switch on the Insignia standing desk is pretty simple; there’s one button for up and one for down. If you’re sitting down on your chair the button is easy to reach just by reaching over with your right hand. If you adjust the desk to fit a standing position you can micro-adjust it so your arms are in a perfect position with your desk. This can reduce arm and wrist fatigue.

The desk can reach a height of 48.4 inches, which is just over 4 feet. It glides up and down very smoothly, and it’s very quiet when the desk is moving. You can hear the motor but it’s not loud at all; it emits more of a smooth hum as it works.

There is Anti-collision technology built into this desk, so if the desk hits an object when you’re raising or lowering it, it will stop.

Gaming on a standing desk

Insignia standing desk review

A desk like the Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk is the perfect desk for gamers. I have 2 sons who love to spend hours in front of their games, and I think this desk would be a great way to get them to stand up and stretch without disturbing their match.

It has more than enough room for a gaming computer too. The desk is wide enough to hold their tower and two monitors while still having room for a headphone holder, lamp, and some cool LED lights.

Cable ties keep everything neat and tidy

There are a few cable ties included in the Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk, and you can use them to attach your computer, printer, monitor, or lamp cables to the bottom of the desk. It makes it easy to attach one cable or several, and you can line them up across the length of the desk to minimize any parts that could drop or dip.

Should you choose the Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk?

Having a standing desk has so many great health benefits, and it’s a nice change of pace to be able to keep working while standing. With a desk like the Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk, you have more than enough room for all of your work or gaming devices, and the fact that you can adjust it to standing or sitting when you need to is just icing on the cake.

It has simple controls, it’s easy to use, and I like the sleek black style of the Insignia Adjustable Standing Desk. You can find this standing desk, as well as many other options at Best Buy online.

  1. Nice looking desk, I’ve been looking for a nice standing desk. That anti-collision tech is smart.
