When you’re always on the go, there’s no better way to share photo prints with your friends than by using a wireless photo printer. The new Canon Ivy 2 Mini Wireless Photo Printer is now available at Best Buy Canada. If you’re looking for a tiny photo printer that’s portable and lightweight, then the Ivy 2 is a great choice for you.
Canon Ivy 2 Mini Photo Printer features & photo paper
Canon—known for both their cameras and their printers—advertises the Ivy as their printer model that’s made to “print, peel, stick, go.” It prints quickly and wirelessly on full-colour ZINK Photo Paper, which features a sticker backing. Great for kids hanging out with their friends, teens decorating their rooms, and parents who want to quickly stick memories to the fridge or family whiteboard, the Ivy 2 is an excellent entry point into portable photo printers. It’s available in both Pure White and Blush Pink.
The Canon Ivy 2 uses Bluetooth 5.0 technology and the Canon Mini Print app. It prints on 2″ x 3″ ZINK paper with 313 x 512 DPI print resolution. If you’ve used the original Canon Ivy or read my Canon Ivy review, you might already know that ZINK paper uses Zero Ink technology. Each sheet of ZINK photo paper comes with the ink already inside of it, so your printer will only need new photo paper—not ink or toner.
Canon Ivy original vs Ivy 2 tech specs
The Canon Ivy (2018) is similar to the Ivy 2 (2022). However, the newer model comes with a few upgrades, including enhanced photo customization, higher quality photo printing, better connectivity, and a significantly faster-charging battery. The new models have a slightly sleeker look as well, even coming in a full-colour Blush Pink version.
The original Canon Ivy photo printer from 2018 was 10.7 cm x 11.83 cm x 3.5 cm large, and weighed 160 g. It printed about 20 sheets per charge, which is the same as the Ivy 2, but needed 90 minutes to charge. The original Ivy used Bluetooth 4.0 and printed at a resolution of 314×400 dpi.
The new Canon Ivy 2 photo printer from 2022 is 8.38 cm x 11.93 cm x 2.03 cm large. It’s actually slightly heavier despite being thinner and shorter, and weighs 180 g. Like the original Ivy, it prints about 20 sheets per charge, but it only takes 45 minutes to charge. The new Ivy 2 prints at a resolution of 313 x 512 dpi.
Both models take about 50 seconds to print each photo, and produce smudgeless 2″ x 3″ sticker-backed photos on ZINK paper.
The difference between an instant printer and an instant camera
If you plan to use your Ivy 2 only while on the go, you might be asking yourself: Why choose an instant photo printer? Why not an instant camera? Some users prefer the control of instant photo printers; others love the impulsivity of an instant camera.
There are many great reasons to buy a portable, instant photo printer. For starters, you can send any photo to a printer. That means you can snap and print immediately, but also that you can re-print favourite snapshots from your childhood or from a party that you loved last summer. On top of that, you get the flexibility of being able to edit your images to perfection. From adding stickers to adjusting exposure, going digital puts you in control.
One final thing to consider is size. The Canon Ivy 2 is a lot smaller than an instant camera. It’s super portable and fits nicely into a school bag or small purse, so you don’t need to plan around it. It just comes with you, ready to go when you are.
