Intel consistently improves computer performance year over year for everyone, from students to artists, business people to gamers. Not surprisingly, Intel is also critical to your success at the most intensely demanding activity for any computer: PC Gaming. Enter for a chance to win a high performance, Intel powered, gaming computer from Intel and Best Buy.

All gamers are welcome

What kind of gamer are you? It’s been said that variety is the spice of life and there are many kinds of PC gamer. Some people stick exclusively to simple PC games that work on any machine; others prefer highly demanding PC games they play on custom built water-cooled machines with the fastest Intel processor available. A recent study concluded that there are six distinct types of PC gamers:

  1. Alpha: Highly enthusiastic, cross-platform, social, influential, and competitive gamer; high knowledge of PC components especially as it affects gaming.
  2. Purist: PC-centric, preferring stationary, immersive gaming; likely to customize PC hardware.
  3. Enthusiast: passionate about the latest gaming trend, loves PC Gaming but also mobile/smartphone gaming; moderate hardware knowledge
  4. Pragmatist: hobbyist preferring stationary/solitary gaming; knowledgeable about hardware but pragmatic about which computer works for their needs
  5. On-the-go: gaming on the go is most important; satisfied with easy to use PC products
  6. Casual: gaming is a quick escape and usually a stationary activity; not very knowledgeable about PC hardware

Think about where you fit into this framework, and what kind of games you most like to play.

  1. On-the-go. My dream laptop is
ASUS ROG Strix G 15.6″ Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i5-9300H/512GB SSD/8GB RAM/NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650)

  2. Alpha, ASUS Zephyrus S Thin 15.6″ Gaming Laptop (Intel i7-9750H/512GB SSD/16GB RAM/NVIDIA RTX 2060)

  3. I am definitely between casual and enthusiast, but I love a good single player and I would be a graphics enthusiast. The desktop I would absolutely love is the HP omen obelisk.

  4. Alpha and the best gaming gear would be an all white build with a rtx 2080 ti and the latest i9 and a little 32 gb ram. i love the corsaur 360x case.i would build myself

  5. I am a purist, night and day I sit at my wimpy AMD powered system struggling to play even the lightest of games. Taking my gaming to the next level is of high priority. My dream system (https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/cybertron-blu-print-workstation-intel-core-i9-9980xe-128gb-ddr4-3200mhz-dual-quadro-rtx-6000-24gb-5tb-samsung-ssd/13862362) would catapult me beyond the competition and even allow me to test the waters of machine learning with that juicy 48GB of Vram.
But even one of those epic Intel laptops would be the upgrade I desperately need.

  6. I’m a purist! Mostly fly sims like DCS and flightaimulator. But I like my tactical shooters like Arma also. Would love to win! Sporting a old Intel 3770k and thinking about a upgrade!

  7. Purest. Acer Predator Orion 3000 Gaming PC (Intel Core Ci7-9700/1TB HDD/512GB SSD/16GB RAM/GeForce RTX 2060). But I would prefer more RAM (64gb DDR4, probably Corsair Vengeance 3000+ if compatible) and definitely a larger video card. Also another monitor at home for the ultimate immersive experience. Thanks Best Buy for running this draw!

  8. Definitely a purist haha. When I first built my pc even though it was not that powerful I kept on upgrading and still own the same pc technically but it’s better than before. Now a gtx 1060. I would love to get alieneware Aurora r8 with me !!

  9. I am a pseudo-Alpha. I absolutely love geeking out over new tech, especially as it pertains to gaming. I say pseudo, because my actual gaming skills aren’t alpha at all. I play with my friends online, and am often the last place, or lowest performing player, but I still love playing with them, and trying to learn to improve. Who knows, maybe a sweet new gaming laptop with great frames-per-second will help me rise through the ranks!

My dream would be anything with Turing NVEC so I can stream while playing with my friends. I would really like to start a stream as a non-pro, non-elite gamer, just someone who is positive, enthusiastic, an average skilled gamer looking to learn and improve my skills with friends.

Thanks so much for this opportunity

  10. Alpha and my dream laptop from bestbuy will be Alienware m17 17.3″ Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i7-9750H/512GB SSD/16GB RAM/RTX 2070)

  11. Definitely a pragmatic gamer. I’d like to be gaming on the Alienware M17 laptop on sale at Best Buy

    • Hi my name is Ryan I like to consider my self a casual gamer. I am not very good at games but I love to play them it also my favorite thing to do in my spare time. I dont have a lot of knowledge of PC’s or laptops but im open to learning more about them. I hope you take the time to read this and consider choosing me as a winner.

      Thanks,

      Ryan Tapankov

    • Purist , I love to customize my PC, order new hardware and install it my self , about to install liquid cooling on my CPU.

  12. I would describe myself as a “pragmatist”. My actual dream laptop is : ASUS ROG Strix Scar III 15.6″ Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i7-9750H/1TB SSD/16GB RAM/RTX 2060)

  13. I am a Purist! I used to be multiple platform, but PC won me over. The desktop of my dream would be the ASUS ROG Strix Call of Duty Gaming PC(Intel Core i7/2TB HDD/256GB SSD/16GB RAM/NVIDIA RTX 2080).

  14. Casual and my dream would be Alienware Aurora R9 – Nvidia RTX 2080 – i9-9900K- 64GB – 1TB SSD + 2TB HD -WIN 10 Home

  15. 1. Definitely an Enthusiast
    2. Would love the HP Pavilion 15.6″ Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i5-9300H/512GB SSD/16GB RAM/GeForce GTX 1650)
Thank you for the chance! Love the article

  16. I am definitely a pragmatist. The Asus Zephyrus S would be nice to take my VR headset on the road, but the Alienware M15 would be great as well and more than powerful enough for game development on the go, as well as some gaming.

  17. I’m a pragmatist gamer. Love multiple platforms but I’ve been glued to my PC lately. Would love a gaming laptop so I can take my games on the go. Been hooked on the Divison 2 lately but usually play RPGs like Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed.

  18. I am definitely a purist gamer. Always loved being hands on and customizing my own PC. Tough call between the two but I would choose the ASUS Zephyrus S Thin because of the sheer raw power and ease of mobility. Thanks!

  19. Enthusiast: I love tech, mostly phones, so when I got into laptops I didn’t know much. “Accidentally” got a laptop with an AMD Radeon 3 3200U paired with Vega 3 Graphics, and I’m sure most people reading this can agree that this was not a great choice. I am not a super hardcore gamer, but when I can barely run Apex Legends then I think to myself, “I coulda done a lot better”. So realistically, when I’m asked what I would want from BestBuy, I would say that I’d like anything better than my current laptop. Also TN panels suck. I make this comment based on experience.

  20. Pragmatist – like a car, or anything, every laptop, computer, mouse, monitor, processor, motherboard, power supply, or IC construction – everything is engineered and built for a specific purpose!

I myself am a fan of sleeper laptops – laptops that look, feel, and act like a business class laptop – but are fueled with top tier components, such as an i7 processor and top tier graphics such as a GTX 1080 which was in the last low profile laptop that I owned.

These days I only use a Microsoft surface 3 laptop so there isn’t much gaming going on, although I catch myself drooling at Microsoft’s new flight simulator more often than not!

  21. In my youth I was more of a Purist but now that I’m older with less free time and more responsibilities I’m definitely the Pragmatist. Dipping a toe in VR means I’ll need a more powerful computer at some point.

Based on the specs alone I’d prefer the ASUS Zephyrus just based on the 2000 series Nvidia GPU.

  22. I feel like I’m between the purist and the alpha. I do play on multiple platforms (PlayStation, switch etc…) But I don’t have the social and competitive dimension of the Alpha. I do love to tweak my PC in both hardware and software. The PC that would interest be as an upgrade today is the CyberPowerPC Supreme Gaming PC (Intel Core i9-9900K/2TB HDD/512GB SSD/16GB RAM/RTX 2070 Super)

  23. Definitely more of a pragmatic style. Recently got to try a Dell XPS 13 with the 10th gen intel. A good setup for me would be the Dell with a solid ExGPU so the whole thing stays portable.

  24. Alpha gamer – both console and PC gaming to follow where the games (and friends) are. I’d love to build my own PC or find something newer to replace my 5 year old Alienware!

  25. I think I’m a purist, and I would’ve loved to have an HP Omen Obelisk, but can’t afford it, I’ve never really even had a desktop, I’ve always had cheap laptops to game on and I’m exited for an opportunity to upgrade my fps from 20 on minimum settings to anything above 30, thanks guys

  26. I’m definitely a pragmatist gamer, but I’m an animator too, so if I win I would use this gift for both my favorite hobby and my pasion. I would love to get the ASUS Zephyrus S Gaming Laptop ♥️

  27. I’m an aloha for sure. I usually build my own PC’s, but would love to give the Alienware Aurora a go!

  28. As an IT professional I’m very familiar with hardware. Having high performance hardware goes beyond gaming when I’m studying new technologies and developing skills with new platforms. The ability to run several virtual machines simultaneously, especially while on the go, is extremely advantageous. That’s why the portability of Asus Zephyrus makes it the ideal combination for work, study, and entertainment.

  29. I used to be a purist gamer but now I only have time for casual play. I wish I could get back into the gaming scene so winning the contest would be my ticket in. Anything with a recent nvidia/amd videocard would be a massive upgrade for the current hardware I have!

    • Definitely a purist gamer. The Alienware Aurora Gaming PC is a beast. (Intel Core i7 9700/1TB HDD/512GB SSD/16GB RAM/GeForce RTX 2080

  30. I’m definitely a purist, at home I have an entry level rjg that I plan to upgrade down the road, but I don’t have any mobile gaming machines and would love the Asus Zephyrus Thin S for on the go gaming and creative work.

  31. Purist all the way baby! Id like to get my hands on and customize the Cybertron BLU-Print Workstation (Intel Core-i9 9980XE, 128GB DDR4 3200MHz, Dual Quadro RTX 6000 24GB, 5TB Samsung SSD). Good luck to all!

  32. I’m definitely an enthusiast! While I love PC gaming and learning about the hardware, I find it’s too expensive to keep up (my current gaming laptop is an ASUS G750 model with a 4th-generation Intel Core i7-4700 processor). My dream laptop is the ASUS Zephyrus S Thin 15.6″ Gaming Laptop which would FINALLY give me the ability to play the AAA games of today rather than having the motto, “if it could run on a Wii, then it’s playable for me”.

  33. I’m an Alpha player. My plan was to get an internship this summer and buy a gaming pc, (I got the offer) but it is cancled because of Covid-19. I need a gaming pc with nvidia graphics card(not just for gaming) because I want to learn Machine learning and I’m not able to train any models using my laptop.I’ve been wanting a gaming pc for 3 years. My dream pc is : https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/clx-set-desktop-amd-ryzen-9-3900x-32gb-ddr4-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2080-super-1tb-ssd-4tb-hdd-wifi-windows-10-home-64-bit/14349344

  34. Alpha for sure. Went to school for Computers to learn as much as possible. Keep up with all the gaming trends, build PCs for friends, family, work and still never gets old. Currently hooked on CoD Warzone with friends and soon hopefully the new DOOM and Bannerlord 2! As for the PC I would love any Desktop with 2080ti sitting in it.

  35. Enthusiast when I have the time, I like the CLX SET GAMING PC (Intel Core i9-9900K 3.60GHz (8 Cores), 16GB RAM, 3TB HDD & 960GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080Ti)
That you have. I’ve always preferred desktops but a laptop would be awesome to win!

  36. I sit between on the go and casual. I used to game more but time is limited these days. My kid usurped my pc so it’s even more limited. Anything I can use for gaming would be nice!
