new Surface devices

This may feel like just another Wednesday, but if you’re a fan of Microsoft’s Surface products, it’s actually a pretty big day. The company just announced a collection of all new models: the Surface Book 3, Surface Go 2, Surface Headphones 2 and Surface Earbuds. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Microsoft Surface releases.

Surface Book 3

I reviewed the Surface Book 2 when it first came out, and it was a pretty impressive combination of power and flexibility. Microsoft’s Dynamic Fulcrum hinge made it unlike any other 2-in-1 laptop out there.

The Surface Book 3 now comes in the option of 13-inch or 15-inch PixelSense Display sizes. Both feature 10th generation, quad-core Intel processors, available Nvidia graphics (standard on the larger model), and the fastest SSD ever shipped in a Microsoft product. For the 15-inch version that means up to 50% faster performance than the Surface Book 2, with astounding battery life of up to 17.5 hours. Surface Book 3 also gets Wi-Fi 6 support, and a USB-C port (in addition to dual USB-A and Surface Connect ports).

And it still features that innovative Dynamic Fulcrum hinge.

The Surface Go is Microsoft’s entry-level Windows tablet. It offers the versatility of the Surface Pro in a more compact and more affordable package. The optional Type Cover comes in a new palette of colours.

The Surface Go gets a slightly larger PixelSense display, now 10.5-inches and crisper at 220 ppi. It also gets an upgrade to 8th generation Intel Core M processors for up to 64% better performance and improved battery life (now up to 10 hours). In addition to the Surface Connect port, the Surface Go 2 gets USB-C, for connecting to the latest new accessories. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and optional LTE round out the wireless connectivity capabilities.

Microsoft got into the wireless headphones game with the Surface Headphones a few years ago. With distinctive styling, active noise cancellation, premium Omnisonic Audio, 18-hour battery life and support for your choice of digital assistant, they made a bit of a splash.

Microsoft just announced the new and improved Surface Headphones 2.

Battery life is improved to up to 20 hours—and they get fast charge support (five minutes of charge time using USB-C for one hour of playback). Swift Pair will quickly connect to your Windows 10 device, and the Surface Headphones 2 can then be used for dictation in Office apps like Word. They’re still available in grey, but also get a new matte black option.

Microsoft also announced all-new Surface Earbuds. These premium true wireless Bluetooth earbuds feature Omnisonic sound, touch controls, and eight hours of music playback per charge—24 hours in total with the charge case.

And more…

Microsoft also says to keep an eye out for a Surface Hub 2, and an all-new Microsoft USB-C travel hub. More ports for everyone, whether you’re at your desk or going mobile.
