HP Smart Tank printers feature a more attractive angle to printing and ink replacement: rather than use an expensive cartridge that needs to be swapped every few months (based on usage), they come with an up to two-year supply of ink bottles in the box. That way you don’t have to worry about running out of ink right when you had a few pages left to print of your report. There’s also no need to rush to the store or to spend money on expensive ink cartridges several times a year either. Two of the latest models in the line are the HP Smart Tank 6001 and HP Smart Tank 7602. Both offer compelling features to suit all types of users.

HP Smart Tank 6001 and 7602 overview

Both the HP 6001 and HP 7602 models can handle prints as well as scans and copies. They boast features like self-healing Wi-Fi that automatically detects and resolves connectivity issues to avoid interruptions to your printing process. Working with the HP Smart app, they can also leverage other wireless printing software and apps like Apple AirPrint, Android (via a plug-in), and Wi-Fi Direct. Of course, you can also use a wired connection if desired.

Both are compatible with Windows and Mac computers and have ample input trays. They offer fast print speeds to help you get the job done, whether it’s printing book reports for school, art projects for home, or small business documents. Let’s look deeper into each new model.

HP Smart Tank 6001

HP Smart Tank 6001

With speeds of up to 12 pages-per-minute (ppm) in black and 7 ppm in colour at up to 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution (4,800 x 1,200 in colour), the HP Smart Tank 6001 can even handle auto two-sided printing. You’ll get a monthly cycle of about 3,000 pages. That’s enough for a small office or family with multiple people using it for personal, work, and school assignments. Each set of ink, which includes one black and three colour bottles, yields up to 8,000 pages in colour or 6,000 pages in black. When you’re running low on ink, you’ll get a notification thanks to a sensor. This gives you a head’s up so you can pick up or order replacement bottles as needed. But this won’t happen very often, thanks to the large ink reservoirs.

The HP Thermal inkjet printer comes equipped with a two-line LCD with smart guided buttons that visually illuminate to help you with any job. The 800Mhz processor speed is blazing fast. You can crank out those flyers for the garage sale and your daughter can get her book report printed quickly after.

Connectivity options include USB 2.0, Wi-Fi (as noted), and Bluetooth LE, and it has 128GB of memory. The 150-sheet input tray and 100-sheet output tray is enough to handle a variety of jobs, both large and small. You could insert up to 10 envelopes at a time, perfect for holiday cards or tax time. The printer can handle a wide variety of document types and sizes. These include letter, legal, photo, envelope, and cards, and both plain and photo paper.

The flatbed scanner, meanwhile, scans at up to 1,200 dpi and can scan direct to digital. Copies are delivered at up to 600 dpi.

A robust all-in-one for the home or small office, the HP Smart Tank 6001 is a solid new option in the line. It will have you feeling relaxed about easily replaceable and long-lasting ink.

The HP Smart Tank 7602, meanwhile, is a more feature-rich all-in-one. It adds more functions, faster speeds, and greater output, among other upgrades. It can print, copy, and scan as well as fax and do duplex printing.

You’ll get up to 15 ppm in black and 9 in colour. There’s the addition of a 35-page automatic document feeder along with the 250-sheet input tray and 100-sheet output. Print up to 8,000 pages in colour or 6,000 pages in black as well with the supplied ink, same as with the model 6001, along with automatic two-sided printing. Resolution is up to 1,200 x 1,200 dpi in black or 4,800 x 1,200 dpi in colour when using a computer. This printer can handle up to 30 envelopes at a time, making it a true workhorse. It can also accept letter-sized paper, legal, executive, photo, and cards in both plain and photo format.

With USB printing and scanning along with the ability to print both wirelessly and via Ethernet, you can also use the HP Smart app to print, scan, share, e-mail, and more. Connectivity options in addition to dual-band Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, and the app include Bluetooth LE and USB 2.0.

This model also adds a 3-inch touchscreen to make operation a breeze, combined with its 800MHz processor. It has double the memory as well at 256GB.

The flatbed scanner offers impressive 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution and can scan documents up to 8.5 x 14 inches in size. The copier outputs 600 dpi. Faxes can be sent and received in full colour as well.

Ideal for larger offices, small businesses with greater printing needs, or even households that might run home-based businesses or simply have a lot of printing, scanning, copying, and even faxing needs, the HP Smart Tank 7602 fits the bill.

The HP Smart Tank 6001 and HP Smart Tank 7602 are available at Best Buy.
