GoPro+ LCD Specs

GoPro has been the leader in the action camera segment basically since they came out with their first model back in 2004. It’s amazing to think that in a market as competitive as consumer electronics, one company has been able to stay at the top of their niche for so long. Without question one of the keys to the success of the brand is a single-minded focus and a constant drive to improve.
If it’s coming up to summer, it must be time for a GoPro announcement.
And lo and behold, here it is: The GoPro+ LCD.
It’s become a habit of mine that every time I get my hands on a new camera I immediately start pressing the LCD screen to see if it’s touch sensitive. And I’m amazed at how few are. Well the good news is that the GoPro+ LCD comes with a touchscreen that allows you to not only change your settings but also to preview your footage and photos right there on the camera. You can also trim your videos while you’re sitting on the chairlift and add HiLight tags to important moments. This is handy because often you’ll often capture very long clips and it’s nice to skip to those key moments without having to use the fast forward button.
With the GoPro’s wide angle view, framing shots has never been a huge problem, but it was nevertheless a matter of luck and chance in previous models because there was no screen or viewfinder. Now that you have that LCD screen there’s no more guesswork – you can get your composition nailed.
The other awesome feature of the GoPro+ LCD is the built in wi-fi and bluetooth capability. Not only can you change settings and modes via the app, you can also control your unit remotely and review and share your footage and images instantly.
The GoPro+ LCD comes with an integrated housing which protects the camera probably better than most users will protect their own bodies. It’s also waterproof to an amazing 40m depth.
In terms of video quality the GoPro+ LCD is not quite up to the GoPro Hero4 Black Edition, in that it cannot shoot 4k video; it maxes out at 1080p. You do get the improved battery life of the Hero4 models, about 2 hours of recording time, which is really impressive for such a small unit.
In terms of still photography capabilities, the GoPro+ LCD delivers 8 megapixel images, and you can shoot burst mode at 5 frames per second, which is nothing to write home about to be honest. I really like the time lapse feature though, which allows you to choose your time interval and then you can just park the unit and let it go to work.
The GoPro+ LCD isn’t at the standard of the Hero4 models in terms of performance, but it does give more users the opportunity to get those awesome touchscreen and wireless capabilities, which I’m sure will make this another wildly successful model.
As I said, you can find the new GoPro+ LCD at Best Buy. Also Best Buy has a wide range of GoPro cameras and GoPro accessories to suit everyone’s needs.
