What’s new with Xbox Series X: Halo Infinite release date and gamescom 2021 news

A new generation of gaming is knocking on our door. Microsoft has unleashed the most powerful gaming console ever created, the Xbox Series X. Officially revealed in December of 2019, Microsoft slowly started to pull the curtain back on the next-gen console’s hardware, software and services.

Halo Infinite release date and Xbox announcements from gamescom 2021

The wait to play Halo Infinite is almost over! This week at gamescom 2021, Xbox announced that Halo Infinite is launching December 8, 2021. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. In addition, two limited edition pieces of hardware to celebrate Halo’s 20th anniversary were announced. The Halo Infinite Limited Edition Xbox Series X Bundle and the Halo Infinite Limited Edition Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 will both launch on November 15, 2021. In addition, Xbox showcased new footage and details on Forza 5 and showcased both of Forza Horizon 5’s cover cars. In other big Xbox news from gamescom 2021, Xbox Cloud Gaming is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles this holiday. And a new Microsoft Flight Simulator update was announced. The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will make your summer sizzle with some of the hottest video game experiences. From cutting-edge interactive experiences to an extensive multi-generational back catalog, the Xbox platform has a massive library of games to jump into.

During Xbox & Bethesda’s Games Showcase the strong momentum the platform has established continued with more exciting announcements. Microsoft delivered some big surprises with a slew of upcoming titles. Let’s look at some of the highlights from the past few months that will lead us into the busy Fall season.

Blockbusters on Xbox Game Pass and beyond

During this year’s E3 presentation more titles were added to the already impressive Game Pass catalog. Even classic titles like Grounded, Fallout 76 and Sea of Thieves received new content and whole new adventures with free DLC. In addition to this, big indie games like The Ascent, Hades and Twelve Minutes will be joining the fold by the end of August.

A packed release schedule

Microsoft doubled down on its commitment to the service promising a major 1st party game launching for every month remaining in 2021. Microsoft Flight Simulator takes flight in July, Psychonauts 2 arrives August 25th, Age of Empires IV on October 28th, Forza Horizon 5 in November and the blockbuster in Halo Infinite coming for “holiday 2021.”

Day One on Xbox Game Pass

Recently released 1st party titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator arrive day and date with their retail counterparts. Psychonauts 2, Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite will arrive day and date with their retail launch. Even big third-party titles like MLB: The Show 21 are currently on Game Pass delivered on the same day as their retail debuts.

Psychonauts 2 arrives August 27th

One of the most interesting and unique games in Xbox’s summer lineup is Psychonauts 2. The follow-up to the original game is a mind-bending platformer. It gives players powerful psychic abilities and delves into the minds of others.

You play as Raz who is working his way up from a Psychonauts intern to a Junior Psychonaut. In the game you are able to upgrade your psychic powers in a variety of ways including PSI challenge cards. Best Buy Blog’s own Jon Scarr had a chance to go hands-on with a preview of the game and chat with director Tim Schafer.
