Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection

Naughty Dog creates some of the best narrative driven games in the video game industry. And, the Uncharted series of games or some of the best in the industry. They are known for their drama, laughs, high octane combat and a sense of wonder. Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog have brought two of the Uncharted games to the PS5 in Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection.

This collection includes two critically acclaimed games, Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End and Uncharted The Lost Legacy. Let’s take a look and see what magic Naughty Dog has woven using the power of the PS5 with my two favourite games in the Uncharted franchise.

A triumphant conclusion to Drake’s riveting saga

After years of leading a high-risk, high-reward life of plunder, Uncharted 4 opens with a changed Drake who has made the decision to settle down with the love of his life, Elena Fisher. Now an easygoing worker in a salvaging company, it becomes apparent early on that Drake still itches for one last adventure, but has set aside his dream in favour of building a stable future for him and his wife.

That all changes however when Nathan’s presumed deceased brother, Sam Drake, suddenly reappears alive and well after fifteen long years. Once the shock of his brother’s presence wears off the reality of Sam’s situation sets in: he must find the long lost treasure of infamous pirate Henry Avery in short order or suffer dire consequences at the hands of a powerful Panamanian drug lord. Nate, spurred by his unshakeable brotherly bond and strong sense of adventure, agrees to set out with Sam on another precarious mission, despite his vow to Elena that he’s turned that page.

A new legacy begins

Whereas Uncharted 4 was the end of Nathan Drake’s story, The Lost Legacy is the beginning of a new story. Naughty Dog wisely chose Chloe, perhaps the series’ most enigmatic character, to assume a new leading role. She’s full of mystery and a blank slate in terms of backstory, so exploring her character is very revealing.

Her co-partner Nadine is similarly dubious, having been a mercenary and heavy-handed paramilitary leader in the previous title. However, through their adventures together in The Lost Legacy you begin to see each in a new light. The story begins with Chloe deciding to explore her roots in India, specifically looking for the lost treasure of Halebidu.

Also seeking the treasure is Asav, a warmongering military leader who believes he holds right over the land. It just so happens that Nadine has prior dealings with Asav, so Chloe hires her to aid in the mission. Right away we’re shown different sides of these characters, with both displaying compassion and camaraderie unlike we’ve seen before. This love/hate relationship is central to the storyline and offers a fresh dynamic that hasn’t been seen in the series before.

Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection

Familiar gameplay

In the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection, you can expect classic Uncharted gameplay. That means, lots of climbing, rope-swinging, sliding, going into cover and moving carts. Both games feature the tall grass stealth mechanic, which lets you creep up to enemies for a one-hit silent KO strike.

Cruising around in your jeep is still as fun as it ever was, especially when the scenery looks so gorgeous it’s borderline photorealistic. Basically, everything you loved from both Uncharted games is included in the collection and comfortably familiar.

The power of the PlayStation 5 shines

One of the many things that Naughty Dog and the Uncharted franchise is known for are the incredible graphics and gameplay. Using the power of the PS5, Naughty Dog has made two already great looking and playing games even better.

You can now feel haptic feedback through punches, vaults, and while driving vehicles. The experience of feeling the tension in rope swings via the DualSense’s adaptive triggers is phenomenal. The Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection features several graphical modes to choose from, all look and play fantastic:.

  • Fidelity Mode offers native 4K resolution with a 30fps target framerate.
  • Performance Mode offers a smooth 60fps target framerate. In this mode while playing on a 4K TV, the game is upscaled from 1440p to 4K. Players playing on a 1080p TV get a 1080p resolution that is supersampled from a 1440p base resolution with improved anti-aliasing.
  • Performance+ Mode: 1080p resolution with a 120fps target framerate.

Naturally, thanks to the PS5’s internal SSD, each game loads near instantly. And, the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection uses the PS5’s 3D audio capabilities to further immerse you in the experiences.

  1. I have played the first game but have to finish the other collection on PS4 then I will have to pick this one up for sure. The first game was great and I’m sure they only got better afterwards.
