Pokémon Presents - New Pokémon SnapNew Pokémon Snap gameplay trailer

If you are into Pokémon exotic islands and photography then New Pokémon Snap will be right up your alley! The follow-up to the Nintendo 64 classic is fast approaching with a release date of April 30th, 2021 on the Nintendo Switch.

We got a fresh look at the title’s gameplay and some exciting additions during the Pokémon Presents video showcase. In the game, you hop into the NEO-ONE hovercraft to help Professor Mirror and his assistant Rita research Pokémon in their natural habitat. Make sure you have your camera ready; the game boasts over 200 different Pokémon for you to capture in order to help the Professor’s research efforts. The professor grades each photo based on composition, range, and if the Pokémon is facing you. Get ready to put your photography skills to the test!

The biggest new feature is the game’s photo editing mode, which will allow players to decorate, edit, and share their pictures. You can use frames, filters, and stickers to dress up your captures then share them online with the community.

We also got a look at some of the tools that will be at the player’s disposal to get Pokémon looking their best for the camera. You can play melodies, feed creatures flufffruit and use the new mysterious Illumina orb to make Pokémon change their poses and modify their elemental powers.

As you snap photos, all these pictures are used to fill up your own personal Pokémon PhotoDex. The Lental region awaits with dense jungles, vast deserts, and deep-sea destinations to explore and photograph Pokémon in their natural habitats.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl announced

Return to the Sinnoh region in the remake of 2006’s Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes. Both games are aiming to faithfully recreate the original story with new improvements on the Nintendo Switch. Towns and routes have been reproduced so fans of the original can relive their journey from the Nintendo DS era. There are also upgrades to graphics and the battle system for a new generation of fans. The sprite-based worlds are now fully 3D along with the addition of “up close and personal” Pokémon battles.

Pokémon Presents - Brillaint Diamond

On top of the aforementioned graphics and battle systems improvements, you’ll get access to exclusive Pokémon depending on which version of the game you play. Each game has over a dozen exclusive Pokémon with the legendary Dialga (Diamond) and Palkia (Pearl) up for grabs. Good lucking catching them all when the game releases later in 2021!

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Perhaps the biggest announcement of the Pokémon Presents was the new open-world adventure Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Step back in time and explore the Sinnoh region in a new, open world experience. The setting is familiar but different, with large swaths of untamed nature where Pokémon roam free. The game takes place well before the Diamond and Pearl games further building upon the Pokémon mythology. No detail has been spared in the historical setting; even the Poké Balls have a more rustic look, made out of wood and puffing steam when a creature has been caught.

Pokémon Presents - Open World

A lush open-world

The first look at the game’s vast landscapes have already drawn comparison to that of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Your journey begins in traditional fashion letting you pick your first Pokémon partner in either Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott. Arceus will build on core gameplay and add new RPG and action elements. When it comes to adding to your Pokédex you’ll need to survey, and research Pokémon carefully. After those steps you’ll have the ability to manually let your Pokéball fly, in order to catch em’ all!

The rugged experience promises to be rich in nature with a Sinnoh unlike anything Trainers have experienced. Explore in the series like never before as you journey to create the region’s first Pokédex. Pokemon Legends Arceus is slated to arrive on the Nintendo Switch in early 2022.

  1. I’ve played a few Pokemon games in my day but now there are too many Pokemon. I have this “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” mentality, which means I always need to catch every Pokemon in every game. Now there are far too many and I feel overwhelmed when I start a new game.

That Pokemon Legends: Arceus looks interesting though. I think I might check it out.

    Thanks for the info Matthew!

    • What has me most excited about Pokemon Legends: Arceus is that it has some serious Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild vibes. Open world exploration with a new Pokemon battle mechanic, I’m ready!
