It’s been nearly 2 years since developer Insomniac Games first announced and revealed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Fast forward to the PlayStation Showcase 2023, the first-ever gameplay footage of this highly anticipated game was shown. However, a vague launch date of Fall 2023 was given, which left many fans wondering when they could get their hands on this third installment in the franchise.

And, starting right now, you can pre-order what is sure to be one of the hottest games this fall, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2!

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 game details

While we don’t know all the details yet on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, here is what we know so far. In late May, during the PlayStation Showcase 2023, the very first gameplay trailer was shown. It introduced a new group of enemies called Kraven’s Hunters, who are after Dr. Curt Connors, also known as The Lizard. The gameplay trailer began at Connors’ house in Queens, which is a new area in the game where you will be able to explore.

The game features Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man, but this time he wears the famous Black Suit and has some new abilities. Spider-Man is more aggressive now, with new ways to defeat enemies, defend against attacks, and improved fighting movements. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the developers at Insomniac Games focused on exploring Peter’s personal relationship with the Black Suit and how it affects the people closest to him.

What’s new in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

In an exciting turn of events, Peter Parker will not be the only character you can play as come launch day. Miles Morales also returns and plays a significant role in the story. And, get this! During the main storyline, you will play as both Spider-Men at different points in the game. To keep things fresh, Insomniac Games have said that both Spider-Men will have stories and missions that are unique to each of them.

Some of Spider-Man’s most infamous and fan-favourite villains return including Venom, Lizard, and Kraven. And, both Peter and Miles will have new abilities. Peter will have symbiote and Miles will have evolved bioelectric Venom powers!

The history of Spider-Man and PlayStation

While Spider-Man and PlayStation go hand in hand today, it wasn’t until Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018 on PS4 that our favourite webslinger became synonymous with the PlayStation brand. In this blockbuster title, everything that gives the Spider-Man movies and comics their mass appeal was present in the game. All of our favourite, or not so favourite, villains were included such as Rhino, Scorpion, Kingpin, Doctor Octopus and many more.

In addition, family and friends including Aunt May, Miles and the on again off again relationship with MJ were all included in the game. One of the things that I really loved about Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 was the way in which the story unfolded. Though the story did start out slow, it picked up a few hours in and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. You can read my full review of Marvel’s Spider-Man here.

Then, in November 2020, in tandem with the launch of the PlayStation 5, Spider-Man Miles Morales launched. This next iteration of Marvel’s Spider-Man picked up one year after the events of the original Spider-Man game. However, in this game, you take on the role of Miles Morales, a 17 year-old teenager, friend of Peter Parker and son of police officer Jefferson Davis. This game is centred around Miles’ personal fears and obstacles that he must overcome to help save New York City. I enjoyed the story about Miles even more so than I did with Peter Parker in the first game. You can read my full review of Spider-Man Miles Morales here.
