I’ve been a big Nintendo fan my entire life, all the way back to the 1980s and the NES. I’ve joined Mario on all his adventures, over multiple platforms in 2D and 3D worlds. At this point, he feels like part of the family, so every year when his big day rolls around on March 10th I always look for fun new ways to celebrate Mar10 Day.
You can imagine my delight when Nintendo of Canada invited me to explore their Nintendo Switch Suite. Afterall, Mario and the crew know how to throw an absolutely epic house party!
Best Buy got a sneak preview of the space and a grand tour from Mario himself! Let’s hop down the warp tube and check out all the suite has to offer.
Views from the 6ix
The suite puts you 26 floors up with adorable Nintendo décor and over 50 Switch titles to play. From March 11th – 26th Hotel X in Toronto has transformed their luxury presidential suite into a Goomba filled gamers’ paradise.
When I first entered the Nintendo Switch Suite, I was completely charmed by the space, it offers lighted-hearted fun with dazzling views of Toronto. The Nintendo team worked hard to create its own version of the Mushroom Kingdom for both casual and hardcore fans to enjoy.
Nintendo Switch Suite has gaming in all forms
The suite’s game selection is fantastic, with over 50 titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to The Legend of Zelda. There is also a great selection of Canadian made indie titles for the consoles too! The suite also has an abundance of controllers available from dozens of Joy Con options to Pro Controllers for those serious multiplayer bouts that require hair-trigger precision.
It’s the perfect spot to organize epic Mario Kart, Smash Bros. or Splatoon 2 tournaments.
If you are into more traditional forms of gaming, there is even a selection of Nintendo-themed board games. You can take your pick of Pokémon or Zelda themed Monopoly and run the board. You can also opt for Mario themed Chess, Checkers, or Tic Tac Toe.
The suite even comes with its own pool table if you feel so inclined to sink a few balls between Switch gaming sessions. One thing is for sure, anyone staying in the Nintendo Switch Suite will find hours of entertainment at their fingertips.
Luxury play zones
The central play spaces are divided into three sections, boasting three large screen TVs and roughly a dozen Switch consoles. The main area features a massive 75-inch Nintendo Switch-themed TV that is perfect for multiplayer gaming. There’s even a set of super comfortable Yoshi egg-themed chairs for those marathon gaming sessions. They are especially great if you are looking for a nice, serene solo gaming session, who knew Yoshi could be so zen?
The adjacent gaming zone has a second large TV and a pool table that are flanked by a tower of Goombas and a life size Toad. This area also has one of the best views in the suite of Toronto’s iconic skyline, a beautiful highlight for the space.
Finally, the third area has a 60-inch TV that can comfortably seat up to four players. The zone is also lined with Switch Lite units which are peaking out of glowing mystery blocks.
With so many consoles and games I didn’t want to leave!
Mario is now booking!
The space is bookable to the public for $500 CAD per eight-hour session, making it the ultimate backdrop for some incredible gaming showdowns. The best part about the suite is all the proceeds from the collaboration go to Starlight Children’s Foundation, an organization on a mission to spread joy to sick kids across the country.
Your booking includes access to the suite from 3:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. and with so many games, you’ll need every minute.
I’m personally hoping Nintendo decides to extend its time at Hotel X Toronto into May so I can host my son’s birthday in the space! It certainly has the popularity for an extended run as all current time slots have been fully booked. Keep checking back on the booking page, you never know when a slot might free up.
