Video games and music go hand in hand

During a game, music can tug at your heart or it can get you going in the direction that the game designer wants you to. On the other hand, music in a game can let the player know that they are losing health or just gained a power up. Finally, a game’s soundtrack can help brand it—and leave a lasting impression while creating many favourable memories.

As a direct result, video game concerts have become popular all over the world with gamers. Many concerts travel the globe to sold out crowds. Not only is it a great way to connect with other gamers in the community but it also is an incredible experience that you won’t soon forget. Let me tell you about my experience with a recent video game concert that I went to not too long ago and the impact it had on me.

Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World of Tres World Tour

To help celebrate the launch of Kingdom Hearts III earlier in the year, the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra concert series went on tour all over the world with a brand-new program—Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World of Tres. Luckily one of the stops was here in Toronto and I had the esteemed pleasure of attending.

The orchestra and choir were composed of more than 100 musicians who put on a stunning performance. The live orchestra included woodwinds, brass, piano, percussion and other instruments. The concert started with spectacular renditions of iconic music from the Kingdom Hearts franchise. To add even more impact, behind the orchestra and choir was a large screen. It showed gameplay footage in perfect harmony with the music.

However, the highlight of the concert was when the orchestra played music from Kingdom Hearts III. They went chapter by chapter through out the game. You could hear many people in the audience humming along, and were cheering and clapping at the end of every piece. Not only did several of the songs send chills down my spine but they also brought back fond memories and times when I was playing the game. It’s like the moments were frozen in time and by listening to the music I could replay them as many times as I wanted.

  1. From the opening soundtrack, in game effects and closing theme, it’s definitely HALO. Okay, let’s all hum along with the symphony….. oooooo, oooo oo

  2. Dragon’s Quest 11. The opening credits sounds like an orchestra and the game is like a SNES throwback. Loved it!!

  3. I think that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has the best soundtrack because of it’s variety – listeners can really feel the adrenaline rush of being chased my monsters and of fighting bosses; the serenity of the fishing hole, etc.

  4. I really love the soundtrack from Far Cry 3. For such a graphic and brutal game, the soundtrack is surprisingly pretty mellow and haunting. If you haven’t heard it, take a listen!

  5. My favourite soundtrack is the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack. Just listen to Gusty Gardens Galaxy! It’s perfect.

  6. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Dreamer Edition. Zelda is my fave game soundtrack since, the legend never dies.

  7. Definitely, Grand Theft Auto because I can choose what stations I want to listen to so don’t have to hear the same soundtrack over and over

  8. I think grand theft auto has the best sound track because I get to change the stations and pick what i would listen to.

  9. I like the soundtrack to the Warcraft games. Played them when they were new, still paying them now 🙂

  10. If you love classical music like I do then God of War saga is my favourite. Bear McCreary’s epic soundtrack includes contributions from an Icelandic choir, Nordic instruments like the nyckelharpa and hurdy gurdy and plenty of grumbling orchestral bass. So fantastic!!

  11. I really like the Super Mario Bros soundtrack, it’s one that’s stuck in my head since I was a teen

  12. Journey – The use of deep strings hit home the sense of loneliness out in the desert with rising harps raising the player’s hope. The music both portrays the adventure and beauty of the game almost effortlessly.

  13. Sonic the hedgehog, I’m not very knowledgeable nor recognise music but I do enjoy this music since it is one of the few tunes I do recognise on hearing it.

  14. My nephew plays Super Mario all the time, so that would make a great Christmas/Birthday present for him

  15. I would say for original soundtracks Super Mario World or Sonic The Hedgehog as the tunes stand the test of time and instantly recognizable. But for variety I love the radio music in GTA Vice City full of classic 80’s music, San Andreas for the 90’s and Mafia 3 for the classic 60’s songs.

  16. The prize is better than what I own so far but nevertheless they are a little huge for 2019 headsets.
