Soar the skies of Metropolis

Outright Games has teamed up with DC and Warner Bros. Games to make a brand-new game based on the all-new animated action-adventure film, DC League of Super Pets, which hit theatres this past July. Inspired by the movie, DC League of Super Pets The Adventures of Krypto and Ace allows you to suit up and soar the skies of Metropolis as super-dogs Krypto and Ace.

In this pet rescue adventure, Superman and Batman’s caped canines uncover Lex Luthor’s plot to pet-nap Metropolis’ strays. By using Krypto’s Heat Vision and Arctic Bark powers, or Ace’s Batarangs and Shoulder Charge attacks, your mission is to put a stop to the evil LexBots. And, along the way, you’ll rescue animals before they’re locked up in LexCorp Zoo as you prepare for the ultimate battle with Lex and his high-tech War Suit.

I think it was a smart idea that PHL Collective, instead of trying to recreate the story of the movie, based it in the same universe. This allowed them to flesh out a bit more of the story and characters and act more as a companion game rather than a game about the movie. Kids love animals and superheroes and DC League of Super Pets has both that will satisfy any young ones love of both.

DC League of Super Pets

Battle Lex Luthor and his army of LexBots

DC League of Super Pets is first and foremost a 3D on-rails action-adventure game. This means that you don’t necessarily control the direction of where you go in each level. However, you can still dodge enemies and go between buildings to make narrow escapes. Think of it as a guided tour or sorts. There are also quick time events that require a specific press on the controller’s d-pad to attack an enemy. Being that the game is geared toward a younger audience there is ample time given and if you press the wrong button the first time you still have time to correct it.

The game takes place across multiple missions throughout Metropolis. You can upgrade both Krypto and Ace’s powers and gear as you progress through the game. Additionally, each of your pet pals PB, Merton and Chip are there to help you battle Lex Luthor and his army of LexBots.

Something that really surprised me and I found to be a welcomed addition that helped keep gameplay fresh is the inclusion of a pet adoption minigame. After you complete a level, you are given the option to take care of the strays that you rescued. By seeing to their needs and making them happy, you help them find new homes with the citizens of Metropolis.

Cartoon-like visuals with vivid colours

Visually DC League of Super Pets The Adventures of Krypto and Ace isn’t going to wow you, but it doesn’t need to. The game is geared towards a younger audience and fits right in with the aesthetics of the movie. Its use of vivid colours and the cartoon-like feel make it easy to play and see what’s happening on screen.

The sound bites of the characters talking while you play does a great job of adding excitement and drama to the action. The game’s user interface is easy to navigate and perfect for the intended audience of the game.

Outright Games knows their audience and developers such as PHL Collective do a great job at ensuring the audience has a good time with their game.

DC League of Super Pets The Adventures of Krypto and Ace is a solid experience for younger players

While DC League of Super Pets The Adventures of Krypto and Ace isn’t a perfect game, younger players will have a blast with it, literally! Based in the same universe as the movie, DC League of Super Pets offers a solid experience. Its 3D on-rails shooting, mixed with a pet adoption mini game will leave smiles on kids faces.

+ Great game for kids and fans of the movie
+ Straightforward controls that are simply and easy to learn
+ Pet adoption mini game will have kids smiling

– While value priced some may think it’s too high
– No multiplayer mode
